Hi,

Just noticed another post where a guy who has the KVHX32M31, was looking at using an XGA(d-sub/RGB) to 5 RCA cable.

My question is 2 fold:

1) Will this provide superior picture quality to hooking up via Component Video (YPrPb)???

2) One would assume you can also hook up this way via the KVHR, as is almost identical to the KVHX.....?

Any thoughts on this welcomed as I had completely overlooked this as an option.

Internested to know if anyone thinks its of benefit.....

Thanks, Nick

PS I'll be outputing from a Teac DV-B800...

You should get the same picture quality from RGB and YPrPb, both use three channels to encode the picture. The main difference being that the component puts the synchronisation signal on the Y channel and the RGB has seperate H and V synch signals hence the extra two cables.

Is this true???

I understood that RGBHV was the grand daddy of analogue?

I have just bought a Teac DVB800 HD set top box for my KVHX32M31, and am trying to figure out if I should buy another 3 RCA component cable (as being used with Pioneer DV676A DVD player) or use a 5 RCA RGBHV cable.

The KVHX32M31 has:
- One 3 RCA component (Y Pb Pr) only connection
- One 5 RCA component (Y Pb Pr) or RGBHV connection (autodetected I assume?)

The DVB800 produces both, via 3 RCAs for component, or via a 15 pin D-sub connection for RGBHV.

Can anyone advise me on this? ie:

- get a 3 RCA (Y Pb Pr) component to component cable
or
- get a Dsub15 to 5 RCA RGBHV cable? (maybe usefull in future for PC connection too)

(I'm only looking at spending $50-$70 on the cable if possible - am happy with the Crest PVDC14 component cable from DVD player for $50. Perhaps more than this amount needs to be spent on a RGBHV cable for it to be worthwhile and I should stick with component?)

RGBHV is slightly better than component, but only as long as the output from the device is proper RGB, not some sort of converted signal. (like being transcoded from component to RGB)

I have my kvhr connected via RGBHV from my teac stb. I haven't really noticed any quality difference... although at least one forum member believed the quality (with the same setup) was not as good as via component.

So, I guess the short answer is, you are unlikely to notice an improvement... perhaps a slight degradation.

The reason we switched to the RGBHV is to avoid the 'warm-up' sync issues between STB and tv.
