Do I still need an STB to get the best out of a HDTV even though I have Foxtel digital?

Thinking of getting the Omni TV3201HD 76cm 100Hz Widescreen (only HDTV within my budget, unless you guys know of any others for around $1100)

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...me=STRK:MEWA:IT

I currently have the TEAC - EU3242ST 76cm Widescreen and can probably get $500 for it.
Will I see a vast improvement for the extra $600 going from Superflat to Pure flat, 50Hz to 100Hz and Analogue to HD running off Foxtel?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Foxtel only transmits in SD so to get the best out of the FTA channels you still need to go with a HD Box. However, my understanding is that at 76cm you wouldnt be able to tell much of a difference between HD and SD. But that is just what I have been told - havent seen the difference for myself. At this stage Foxtel also only transmits SBS and Channel 9 (ABC coming soon I understand) so to see the other FTA channels you will still need to get a STB.

So forgetting Foxtel for the minute, what kind of improvement could I expect going from a 50Hz, superflat, Analogue to a 100Hz, Pure flat, Digital?
And would it be worth the $600 extra?

A personal view is if you do not see a flicker with the 50Hz (which some people apparently do), then there is little if any benefit in getting a 100Hz TV. Personally with the 76cm Teac you have I would just get a good quality SD STB and stick with what you have. I dont believe you will see much difference in PQ from your current TV with a STB to the Omni TV3201HD. Certainly not worth $600 in my opinion.

Thanx that really helps, so how does an STB work with Foxtel? I just run everything through it like I am now? I've got Foxtel digital going through my VHS to the TV

Best thing to use to check for flicker are DVD menus in my experience, especially ones with rectangualr frames.

Or scenes on a DVD with car grilles and such. IMHO, a good 100Hz is the way to go or better yet, progressive scan.
