Hi Everyone,

I just bought a hitachi plasma (32PD5000) and tried installing my DVD via component as advised but it seems to be that its not working. First, I've put in via AV2 - it came as Black & White and it doesn't have a sound and next thing is via AV1, the same result.

I also bought monster cables for component and sound. I asked someone in JB and he said that I should change the Video Input to "Component" - its only in AV2 that has it but when you go to the menu it only has "RGB" or "Composite/Component" - and it doesn't change to just "Component" only.

Please HELP me... How can I make my DVD (Pioneer 466) work in my Plasma? What's the best solution??? sad.gif

Thanks,
timats

timats: My relative experienced exactly the same problem with his Hitachi plasma and a Sony dvd player. In his case, he need to go through the Sony dvd player's setting and set output to component. After that, everything works fine. His Hitachi automatically detects whether it is component or composite.

Go through your dvd player's manual. Hopefully it is the same in your case. Maybe someone who has the same plasma and/or dvd player can advise more accurately.

Cheers.

Are you sure the cables are plugged in correctly? It can be a bit confusing at the back of the Hitachi..... try getting the picture with just the Composite first, and then ensure you are plugging the cables correct for Component connections....

timats: so sorry to hear that my suggestion did not help.

The no sound problem. Did you remember to connect the audio cables from the dvd to the plasma? Just in case you were like me ( wacko.gif ) when I first started, the component cables does not carry the sound signal.

In addition, before your plasma comes along, did your dvd player works with your old tv. If so, how was it connected? If you dvd player was connected via component to your old tv and worked fine, then I would concentrate on your plasma as being the culprit for the problem.

Hope someone here who has the same plasma can throw in some light to help you out. Very distressing to have any problem with any new purchase... sad.gif

Cheers.

Ritesh: what do you mean by "Composite" first - do I need to have a different cable for that? I followed the coding of the cables - the connection I think is right.

I've tried the DVD in AV3 with just the regular cable (L, R & Video) it worked fine. I want to put in the component thing to have a better picture & sound.

Fattchoi: that's alright. My DVD is connected with my old via the L, R & Video. Can I just reset my DVD?

I think Ritesh means hook it up using the "regular" cables (composite) on AV2 and see what the result is. If it works find, then there is a good chance that it is a "settings" thing.

timats: composite is that L, R and video (red, white and yellow) connection that you used with your old tv or in AV3. What ritesh wants you to do is connect that on AV2 and see if it works. You will notice that for AV2, there is the component and composite inputs.

If it works with composite on AV2, then just disconnect the yellow plug from both your dvd player and plasma. Leave the Red and White cable on as this is needed to carry the sound signal. Then connect the component cables correctly ensuring that the right colored cable go into the right port for both the dvd and plasma.

Try it out and report what you find. Hopefully, you will be able to get the sound at least.

Cheers.

Does the problem has something to do with the monster cable? Or is it just fine -its just a matter of setting it up properly?

timats: I don't think the cable has anything do to with it. You can always use alternative cables to see if there is any change in results. Chances are it is just merely connecting up the equipment correctly and then setting both the dvd player and plasma correctly. If my experience with the Hitachi plasma is anything to go by, I don't think you even need to do anything with the plasma as it will automatically detect the signal coming into the component. Chances are the problem lies with the set up in your dvd player.

However, do try out my above suggestion first and see if you can at least get the sound. If not, I understand your Pioneer dvd player has another audio output. If so, connect the red and white cables to that audio out on your dvd player instead of from the audio out of the composite output.

Cheers.

Thanks heaps again!

Try AV3 on the Plasma.

fattchoi & everyone : Thanks for all your help!!! It worked thru AV2 via component. But I used a regularcable for the sound - I think the seller gave me a wrong cable for sound - its not working when I put it on but when I changed it to the regular cable, everything worked. Thanks again everyone! smile.gif

timats: Great. Good to hear that you managed to resolve the problem. Thanks mainly to this great forum that I learned soooo much as well.
