Hi all!

I have had a Philips rear-projection TV for around 6months, model 46PP8621. It has 1080i/480p, 576p support, with 2 HD inputs (RGB and component).

I have just bought a LG LST-4100P HD set-top box and connected it to my TV using the RGB (HD-15) connection. The issue I have is that only the 576p output of the LG box is working. Once I switch to 1080i, I don't get a picture on my screen. I also tried using the component inputs, to no avail.

One thing I have noticed is that in the user manual of the TV, it states that 1080i and 480p runs at 60Hz, syncing to the EIA/CEA-770.x-C standard, whereas the 576p runs at 50Hz syncing to the ITU-R BT.1358 standard. Another small fact (which may or may not be useful) is that the LG STB has a DVI output conforming to the EIA-861 specs, which maybe I can get a DVI->RGB converter/adaptor to get it to work?

So could it be my TV is incompatible with the 1080i output standard in Australia? And is there any way to get a 1080i picture at all with my current TV and STB?

Any help would be much appreciated!

From the details you have supplied, this set only supports one 50Hz HD mode which is 576p. You would be better off swapping the LG HD-STB for a Thomson HD-STB because this HD-STB also outputs 1080i / 1250 which most 576p displays support. I'd also check with Philips ... good luck.

Humm, if they sold you a HD display in Australia that does not support 1080i 50Hz I think you have very good grounds to get your money back.
However it would be unusual if that where the case.
Can you lone another HD set top box to test?

The DVI output of the LG is DVI-D which means it is a digital only output so you won't be able to convert it to RGB. sad.gif

Your would be correct, that TV can only do 1080i HD modes at 60hz and not to the Australian 50hz standard, so no 1080i HD i'm afraid.
