I'm surprised they didn't review the Pioneer as well given it has just been released on the market. I just saw the Pioneer 435 and Phillips side by side yesterday, and I would definitely give the 435 the thumbs up. Yes I do own a 505, but no I am not bias. Just my untrained eye review if you like.

bummer, missed buying the paper yesterday.

did the reviewer elabortate on such things as:
*source DVD player +STB
*DVD movies tested
*connections used: component vs HDMI/DVI-D
*ambient light
*fresh out-of-the-box vs run-in
*factory-settings vs retuned

obviously these sorts of things can alter the PQ and bias the results. but it would seem the NEC is no longer streets-ahead as it was only 6 months ago. i suppose you expect that: other brands closing the gap.

Yeah i read this review and laughed

The problem mentioned with the NEC being susseptable to burn in is true enough UNTIL you have the run in time under control like the 200 hours then this problem will disspear.

I should not really say its burn in prob but more aimage retention problem in the intital run in period but this aint a problme anymore with mine.

I am dissapointed that they desided to test a out of box unit instead of a run in unit lets face it all units out of boix look like crap and only get better as time goes on

At Mega mart last night i asked the driod why thay did not have the NEC on the floor and asked if they had seen it that answer was yes thay had seen it side by side with the 435 and the comment was they expect to sell heaps of the NEC
Groover !
Ill back up what Glencol said. Never ever judge the Nec on a non run in screen,as the image retention (not to be confused with the horrible burn in phrase !) is quite bad

Its interseting how the Phillips had the best picture quality according to the test. I wounder if he saw the dancing pixels which are so visible with Philips Plasmas .

Is the LG Model the one with the HD tuner inside ?

Hi Shiny they didnt have the points you mentioned in the reviews in fact the reviews were quite vague with not much info, they did have a seperate part where they explained what DVI and HDMI are but thats about it.Thank god for the forums cause if i was looking at buying a plasma 12 months ago i would have taken on board what was in the reviews in the paper, not that all reviews in the Herald are bad but i think we all know by now that if you are going to purchase any AV gear it pays to take an interest in the topic and research ,research and more research.Lets face it who need more regrets in life due to a biased review or a stupid sales droid.
