Hi there. I would like to know if the TF4000, 300 and 500 have all the same EPG software, since I did'nt get a reply on the topfield forums. Also, can you edit the channel names and name them anything you like? Thanks

If you don't get a response from emailing support@topfield-australia.com.au

I don't think anyone understood your question on the Topfield forums, I certainly didn't. What the heck is EPG software???

Here is your post on the Topfield forum in the TF4000T forum:
QUOTE
Hello there. I would like to know if you can name the channels anything you like in the TF400T EPG software. Thanks.

What?? What has EPG got to do with channels? I am confused. What is a TF400T for a start? If you meant TF4000T, then why are you asking on a TF4000T forum if you can name the channels like on a TF4000T, this doesn't make any sense? The grammar is poor too, making it also hard to understand your exact question.

If you had of mentioned channel editing software, then I would have started to click, but what are you actually asking with respect to EPG software? Do you mean that the code that Topfield uses to generate the EPG views is the same in each of these boxes?

Seeing that you are "thesatelliteguy" it sounds like you have seen a few boxes. Apparently, from what I have seen with the very few screen dumps I have seen out there, the menu systems look *very* similar between some of the TF models. The TF4000 is a powerPC processor, so certainly the low level code running in it is VERY different to the TF5000 which is a MIPS processor, but given the menus look very similar (do they?), I would say that Topfield use similar C source code between each of their models, and the underlying compiler and linker does the MIPS or PowerPC or other changes. So you can't say that it is identical between models for a few reasons.
1. The compilers probably all have subtle differences.
2. The base code that Topfield uses changes all the time for each platform. I don't think they develop all their code for all platforms as one chunk (with compiler or other directives to say "this is a TF4000 compile" or "this is a TF5000 compile", judging by the releases they bring out not occurring at the same time.

edit: OK, ignore all my rambling, I just re-read your question for the third time, and at least understand your grammar now.
You are asking "I would like to know if the channel names can be changed in the TF4000T" (I will ignore the EPG bit, because I think this is irrelevant. EPG is related to the program guide and not necessarily the channel details.
If it is anything like most terrestrial PVRs that comply with LCNs etc, then the answer is probably no. Have you got the box already? Have you gone through all the menus and looked in the manual? I know there is a channel editor for the satellite boxes, have you tried that on the 4000? (The 5000PVR channel editor doesn't work on the Terrestrial 5000PVRt though).

Oh come on mate. I think anyone would know that I was talking about the TF4000T. Just a simple mistake okay. EPG (electronic program guide) ever heard of one? The info that the STB gives you every time you change the channel. Thanks for your info anyway.

EPG is related to now and next and /or weekly program information, it has little to do with the channel names.
This is more about DVB-SI (Digital Video Broadcasting Service Information) which conveys all sorts of information. EPG is a subset of this, and not to do with the channel name.
The NIT (Network Information Table) is what the broadcaster sends in the MPEG Mux to convey network details, and the SDT (service descriptor table) used to convey the channel name details.
EIT (Event Information Table) is used to send now/next and other info, for such things as EPG, so you can see this isn't even part of the channel name table!

OK I see what your saying now. Thanks mate for all your help.
