Just wondering if anyone has a similar problem. I have a Strong 5390. When running through the s-video output the picture quality is horrible. Poor colour and fuzzy picture. When running through the RCA outputs the picture is perfect.
I have tried different s-video cables and tried running directly into TV as aposed to through my AMP.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Well tha's interesting - I run S-video from my 5390B to the PJ and the quality is absolutely fantastic, nearly the equivelent of Component but not quite.
When I bought it to replace a vcr I was prepared to have a slightly lower pq compared the Component but was astounded that it actually is that good.
Although I must admit that I have good quality Canare cabling and everything video is connected direct to the pj, no amp switching involved.

With some boxes, you need to set the Scart output to s-video even if you are using the mini DIN s-video connection. Might be worth checking and trying if the Scart output is currently set to composite or RGB.

Sounds like a setup problem.
Unfortunately I am at work so I can not give you proper instructions but
Somewhere in the system parameters setup you can change the colour setup.
Having it incorrect when using S Video will result in washed out colours and a fuzzy picture which is exactly what you are describing.
Hope it fixes your problem.

That's exactly what happened when I first connected it via both Composite & S-Video. But once I got it up & running & changed the output selection in the menu the S-video was OK.

Yep - you can toggle between RGB, S-video (labelled as Y/C, by the way) and CVBS (composite) within the menu functions.

Thanks for the replies. I rang the place I got it from and asked. that was exactly the problem. Set it to Y/C and works perfectly now.
