I have had the 350 for about 2 months and here is a list of problems I've had

1. The remote is crap, you press number 1 and teletext comes up.
2. I start watching the ABC on the STB and within 5 seconds the STB turns off and then turns on again 10 seconds later.
3. I must have lost my channel configuration about 10 times.
4. During the many reinstallation of channels (refer above) I get the message no channels were found. Do it again and it finds all the channels if I'm lucky some times the STB misses the Sydney ABC.
5. The firmware is not the latest so I'm told to buy a cable and upgrade the firmware or travel from Arncliffe (next door to Sydney Airport) to Seven Hills the other side of the world an hour away to get the problem resolved. (If anyone can help in the local area I would appreciate the help).

This is not good not enough for a retail product or is Teac following MS.

I'm I the only one.

Can someone help in relation to the what the software upgrade option does ?

Yes I'm impressed with the picture quality when the STB stays on or I’m not retuning the channels.

Congratulations, you've noticed all the bulit-in faults of the Teac DV-B350 biggrin.gif
I've had 2 of them (brand new) and both have the exact same problems you've mentioned. Other people on this forum have reported the same faults. The upgrade to firmware 2.6.7 is supposed to fix the channels from untuning themselves, but someone here said that it didn't help at all.

I returned mine and swapped for a DV-B420 which is much better, but still has a few problems. It's nowhere near as bad as the 350 though, and having the same price tag as the 420 there is absolutely no reason to buy a 350 anymore.

I assume it allows the stb to upgrade to new software off-air. The TV stations would have to be transmitting the new software for that to work though dry.gif

You're not alone. My 350 powered up in initial install mode for some reason yesterday. When I did the channel scan, no channels were found and I got the "check your antenna" message. Rebooting it fixed that - it then found all the channels.

There seem to be a number of bugs in the software. Teac do try to find and fix them, but I'm very sceptical of their ability to completely do that, given their apparent available manpower and the apparent number of bugs. Of course, this is only one product of a number with other software problems.

No, it isn't. The main reason I didn't take mine back was:

meh, just swap it for a 420, they are the same price and a hell of a lot better.

meh,

I thought you were going to say that sleep.gif . You're right - I probably should.

So, what issues have you had with your 420 ?

Edit: grammar

Well I just posted one more problem about the sound quality dropping when using both SCART and RCA connections

Apart from that I get a nasty popping/scratching noise when changing to ch7 or SBS, but this guy from Teac said in an email that it would be fixed with the next upgrade. I think they will make it just blank the sound a bit more instead of getting popping/scratching. Basically what happens is the 350 blanks the sound completely and for a long time whenever the signal is interrupted (such as electrical impulses), the 420 hardly blanks at all so sometimes you get a very quick sound drop out and sometimes it makes a scratching/popping noise.

Apart from that it works pretty well. I think the tuner is a bit more sensitive though, but ive found with a Digitor amplified antenna it picks up a 100% signal very easily.

I am quite happy with my 350. It used to lock up occasionally but after the software upgrade it has been much better.

Same here. Using the 350 with the original firmware was a nightmare, lockups, buggy teletext/subtitles. Now however upgrading to the latest firmware has really fixed all the problems I had with the unit. Although yes, it is a pain to have to buy and construct the cable to make the update.

I've only had my 350 for a week but have so far had no trouble with it.
I've used it at Norwood on the Mt Lofty transmitters and also at Victor Harbor on the local translator.
On both occasions it auto tuned all the channels straight up.
I've had no lockups, no loss of channels, no pixellation and no dropping of sound.
It has the .71 firmware.
I only have it connected via the supplied composite cable at the minute but have bought an adaptor to use component, hopefully this will improve an already very good picture even further.
The Pana QTR2140 I had before this... well that's another story.

I too am happy with mine. Since upgrading the firmware I have had very few problems.
If you are planning to swap the unit for a 420 just look first at the differences between the output options on the two units - they are not the same and may not suit.
Also note the 420 runs off mains power instead of 12volt DC pack.
