I recently got my DVB-350 via TEAC redemption and its been working fine picture wise. I have only had one lockup so its been pretty reliable.

I am getting a high pitch whining noise from the unit. Its not super loud but definitely noticeable. Especially if you turn the TV volume down.

Anyone else got this problem? Whats the fix?
Craigus
Is it coming from the unit or from the plug-pack power supply?

In any case, it isn't normal - I'd take it back.

If your in Melbourne their office is 5 minutes easy drive from the CBD.
Wharf 5 in Fishermens Bend from memory. (Liardet St?)
It's in the white pages.

I dropped in to get the firmware updated on mine and they did it while I waited.

Hi

Bad choice on getting the 350 I'm afraid. They are extremely buggy and the software upgrade doesn't seem to be a certain fix (from what other people have reported). I've had 2 of them and both were hopeless, one of which had the whining noise you are talking about. The first one I had was silent (as it should be). Getting Teac to fix the hardware would be the only option I would say.

If I were you I would sell it privately or try and redeem some credit for it from somewhere. Maybe Teac will let you swap for a DV-B420 since it's the same price?

It's just a matter of time till the channels start dropping out...I feel sorry for you.

bigdongers,
Firstly make sure it is not the display which is making this noise. You don't say what you view it on, but what ever it is has a switching power supply whos' transformer can sing!

This can also happen in the STB but is very unusual because the amount of power involved is very low.

I had 2 of them and only one made the whining noise, so this would rule out the display being the problem (used both on the same display). Also I had both on the same circuit on the same outlet.

I have it connected to a Teac widescreen TV. I am pretty sure the sound is coming from the STB because when I get up close to the unit, I can hear it coming from there.

bigdongers,
The STB's power supply must have a faulty transformer in it.

Cool thanks for that. Does this mean to fix it they simply replace the AC adaptor or do they need to replace the whole unit?
alanh
bigdongers,
Does the unit have a plug pack at the power point or an ordinary plug.

I suspect not, it will be up to them whether they replace the whole unit or the internal power supply.
