After looking through Priors thread he has inspired me to make my own motorised scope screen and i was wondering if anyone has tried this before? im in the position where i have a wall mounted tv and cant add a fixed screen (wish i could) and think scope is the way to go.

So have you got any links or anything to get me started? i have an existing 100" motorised screen which i might canabalise for parts so shouldnt be overly dificult.

Sure there are two ways.

• you could simply set the stops so it doesn't drop down all the way.
  
• remask and paint the part of the screen surface to reformat the screen.

I am sure someone at AVS did that.

yeh i thought of that but it would be alot of painting, as it has to come down a fair way.

Painting would be your cheapest & easiest option.

Is it not a flat black spray job?  I'm sure the guy at AVS or where ever I saw it) used a pressure pack spray can(s).  The hardest part would be the masking as any overspray, and the job is history.

Something I forgot to ask is what width is this?  Going from 16:9 to Scope at the same width is the same as losing 25% of the image height - ie what letterboxing does.  If you do CIH, then your 16:9 image is now even smaller again or 0.5625 the size of the original 16:9 image.  If it was a case of using a screen wider than the original of say at least 25%, then the slight decrease in image height might be acceptable.  Ideally you would have a screen 1.33x as wide and lose no height.

You state in your opening post that you can't use a fixed screen mounted to the wall because of the TV, but what about one that swings up?  Take a look at Woodlakes Mega Shed Build thread and see what he did.  Very cool idsea and would allow the best of both worlds.  

Even an AT screen could be used here as the Scope screen is much taller then the TV and the centre speaker could be mounted either above or below the TV.  Your left and right speakers (if small enough) could also be mounted behind as well.  The ONLY thing you would have to address is possible reflections of light from the TV's screen surface coming back through the holes on the AT screen.  The fix is simply anything non reflective that can be placed over the TV when the Scope screen is down.
