Slattery,
Considering that 7's network playout is in the same building as the AFL, they can easily archive the HD version.

You will note that in the AFL states the AFL is SD and in the RL states its HD. Similarly the RL in NSW & Qld are on SD and in all other states its in HD.

This is due to the anti-syphoning law to prevent Foxtel from having all football.

AlanH

Honestly, I've tried to avoid posting anything against you - but you cant be serious, can you?

its a well known, documented, stated-from-Ch.7 fact, easily verified by watching on 7mate and Fox Footy HD, that the AFL is NOT in HD when the broadcast originates from Ch.7 - even if it is shown on 7mate

Please, please, please dont comment about things you have no idea on. This has nothing to do with anti-syphoning laws which clearly state that all home and away and finals games (except Grand Finals for both codes) are Tier B sports which are permitted to be broadcast on the stations mulit-channels, which is why this is done

G'day,

Week 3 of the finals sees an unusual move, for the top team to play, not only on a Saturday, but at Twilight, this has put the Seven network in an awkward position with it's News service on the East Coast, forcing them to put it on 7TWO, while an updated one will be on the main channel after the match, the post match will be on 7mate (HD or not, we'll see)

Friday Night: Sydney v Collingwood - First Bounce: 7:50pm AEST

W.A. including Perth at 5:30pm on Seven and GWN
A.C.T. and N.S.W. including Sydney at 7:30pm on 7mate
Qld including Brisbane at 7:30pm on 7mate
Nationwide at 7:30pm AEST on Fox Footy and HD (7pm ACST - 5:30pm AWST)

Saturday: Hawthorn v Adelaide - First Bounce: 5:15pm AEST - 4:45pm ACST

What a frigin joke this is:

Quote

5. A better broadcast from the folks at Channel Seven
For those of us not fortunate enough to be attending the MCG on grand final day, much of the afternoon's joy or frustration will depend on whether Channel Seven can get their act together. In a show of good faith, Brian Taylor should be helicoptered into the Simpson Desert just to rule out the possibility that he stumbles onto a live microphone. But the producers also need to do away with the camera-angle experimentation that has blighted their coverage this season. This is the grand final; it's no time to be messing with TV tropes that have existed without complaint for decades. And while we're at it, tell Dennis to keep the canned banter to a minimum and tell Richo nobody cares what tweeting Joes and Janes think.

G'day,

Week four of the finals, and as we all know, this is the one and only game in the new rights deal that Fox Footy isn't allowed to broadcast LIVE, so we'll all go onto Free To Air, and hopefully there arent many ads, unless you're in Tasmania, or overseas

Saturday: Hawthorn v Sydney - First Bounce: 2:30pm AEST
Played At: MCG, Melbourne

LIVE To:
Tasmania including Hobart at 2:30pm on Southern Cross
N.T. including Darwin at 2pm on Southern Cross
Victoria including Melbourne at 2:30pm on Seven and Prime
S.A. including Adelaide at 2pm on Seven, Southern Cross GTS/BKN and WIN South East
W.A. including Perth at 12:30pm on Seven and GWN
A.C.T. and N.S.W. including Sydney at 2:30pm on Seven and Prime
Qld including Brisbane at 2:30pm on Seven
Gold Coast at 2:30pm on Prime

REPLAY:
Nationwide at 6:30pm AEST on Fox Footy and HD (6pm ACST - 4:30pm AWST)

Channel 7's Grand Final coverage starts from 9am LIVE from the MCG, that's 8:30am ACST, 7am AWST, and after the match, they've scheduled a replay at 6:30pm, which is 6pm ACST and 4:30pm AWST on 7mate

I put up with watching the blurred image of the GF on 7 on my 135" screen but now I want a version to keep given the mighty Swans victory and no Bluray available as I don't think anyone had HD cameras even there. TV in Australia, especially sports broadcasts, are years behind the US and Europe.
Imagine the uproar in the US if fans could get some Superbowls on BD but the most recent was only DVD

Can anyone confirm whether 7 used SD or HD cameras at the GF?

Pretty sure they always use high definition cameras; the issue is that they don't deploy an outside broadcast high definition van and associated equipment so the coverage is always relayed in standard def.  I suspect they baulk at the cost of hiring the hd van.

G'day,

I've had a look on the AFL site recently, and was hoping that at least two more broadcasting schedules would be displayed for a series that normally pops up after the AFL season

The International Rules series doesn't seem to be displayed anywhere, like it's gone missing, so maybe they're not holding it this year

So with that, I thank all the people who have followed this thread all season, we'll all know next years fixture by the end of this month and shall do it all again from the start of February for the NAB Cup

I see a few places advertising a bluray coming for a few weeks time, so will see if it is native HD or upscaled. I did see Speed HD has HD version of Bathurst replayed unlike Fox Footy with the AFL grand final.

G'day vasilli,

I just looked it up, I wasn't aware of the series being cancelled, that would explain why there's nothing on the AFL site, the least they could have done, is put a small note on the front page stating it

It sounds like they're blaming the small crowds of last year in Melbourne and Gold Coast, partly because of the players who were selected, not high profile apparently

At least for the next 6 months, we enjoy another sport, Tennis, Cricket, Golf, Soccer, Horse Racing, Motor Racing, Basketball, Snail Racing, you pick

Cheers for the links.

That guy is a tool!

Its fine to say we cant afford to do it in HD, (Bollocks!) but why cant they provide a HD feed to Foxtel? I couldnt give a rats that its in SD on 7. Surely it wouldnt be THAT much more expensive, dont they use HD cameras at the ground anyway?

I hate se7en, and I agree with most of the callers, McAvaney has got to go.
