G'day laurie,

Isn't it the same reason why games are played in Darwin or Canberra?

Because the team wants to, is my guess, and it's a St. Kilda home game, dont they host this one each year?

Well from the AFL site:

Quote

4. The timing of a game on Monday night is not exactly a new concept, as these two teams have played in that time slot for the past couple of years. But it does present unusual circumstances that change the weekend routines of all concerned. The only two times Carlton has beaten St Kilda in the past 11 years were in Monday night games over the past two years.

I also checked their next games and both are on Sunday week so they have six days off

Because neither Carlton or St.Kilda can draw a crowd [must be too hard to get a day release for an AFL game], so the AFL have put them against each other so the clubs will have an excuse

It would be great if the picture quality improved, the pictures look so soft and riddled with artefacts. My wife has been complaining bitterly over the poor picture quality so much so we don't watch as much AFL this year

What is the picture quality like for those interstate viewers who get to watch AFL on 7 Mate? Is it native HD or the same **** SD signal that Fox Footy viewers receive upconverted?

I dont think its a mistake - at the start of the season it was billed as Master vs Apprentice - Hird vs Sheedy - good publicity, even if it ends up being a boring game

Alas, some places are saying 7's Sat night game in Melbourne is the Adelaide v Collingwood game...

My Bombers schedule shows we have 8 sat night games in a row (excluding bye) all on FTA

It's wonderful for the neutral fan, Collingwood and Adelaide in high def while Brian Taylor (how many GWS players' names will he know, 4?) and his offsiders are doing their thing in SD at Homebush

Unfortunately it is SD put onto the HD channel, it is really awful that the broadcasters now treat the HD channels with disdain. "Freeview" has become "crapview"
Fortunately for me I can watch plenty of HD (H.264) content on the internet. So long Free to Air!!!

Can someone confirm or deny the Ess V GWS replay on 7mate was in HD.

I got home from work last night and flicked the (little) TV on in the bedroom and watched a bit of the game and was surprised to see that it looked pretty good!

HD is not as glaringly obvious on the little TV viewing at over 2M, but it did look OK to me. I'm in Adelaide BTW.

Pretty sure it was SD only (live on 7mate here in NSW).
Fox "HD" simulcast was definitely an upscaled version from 7 yet again.

Like you say, the difference in PQ on a small TV isn't very noticeable at a longer distance.

All AFL games are in  SD and if they are shown on the HD channel (Mate) it is still SD transmitted on a HD channel

G'day Aurora8,

These times don't include pre-match, if we did....Saturday nights coverage every week would start at 6:30pm, but the match doesnt start until an hour later, the way the ratings work is, there's a pre-match and post-match in the coverage, not just one block, what I quote here is the main event
