Jvc Dila-hd950 Settings For Ps3

Settings on PS3:
RGB Full Range (HDMI) = FULL
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI) = ON
Deep Colour Output (HDMI) = AUTOMATIC
Settings on Projector
Input = ENHANCED
Color Space = RGB
RESULT = Very Pink Image, No Accurate Colours.
On the projector, if I switch the Colour Space to YCbCr(4:4:4) the colours are fine, however it is a very washed out image. Blacks are a dark grey. If I change the Input from Enhanced to Normal (or Auto), it fixes the problem. But I could have SWORN I always set my projector to enhanced mode... and it never looked washed out before?? Wouldn't switching to normal kind of defeat the purpose of the enhanced output on the PS3? Also what about the colour space?
Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm having a total brain fart today!

OK so..
Manually setting to 4:4:4 or auto is the only way to watch a blurry in accurate colours. 4:2:2 gives me a black and green image. HOWEVER, if I set it to 4:4:4 and return to the PS3 main menu, the colours are all out of whack. If I set the projector to RGB, then the PS3 menu looks fine - but then movies look pink. So I have set the colour space to AUTO on the projector and that seems to be fixing that issue.
As for the Enhanced/Normal mode... I did a little reading and it turns out that you only get TRUE Black 2 Black and White 2 White in Enhanced mode, but that the contrast and brightness settings of the projector need to be tweaked. Where black is black in normal mode with contrast and brightness set to 0, black is grey when in enhanced mode. So I have set the brightness to -6 and contrast to +10. This seems to have brought the image back to something more natural.
I have to admit that switching to Normal mode still seems to have more impact/contrast, but this could just be the fact that the enhanced mode offers greater levels of grey detail?

No Film material on Blu-ray or DVD uses enhanced mode (WTW or BTB). So no value in setting it for film. BTB and WTW info can be generated by some games so more a gaming setting. As you state, you have to tweek/adjust the contrast and Brightness if you use it.
I assume you have the 3800 firmware upgrade that fixed the BTB and WTW clipping issue.

Yeah I performed the firmware upgrade not long after purchasing the unit.
I have to say, setting enhanced mode on, and adjusting my brightness/contrast has actually resulted in a nicer picture than I had before - regardless of the fact that no movies has enhanced B2B/W2W... go figure. I seem to have more shadow detail now, while still retaining deepest blacks.
I would love to know what general settings other HD950 owners use... brightness, contrast, sharpness, edge enhancement, picture mode, colour temperature, gamma etc.

If one leaves on standard rather than enhanced then Brightness and contrast should be close to 0 setting depending on any quirks in Blu-ray player. As examples, both of which I own/have owned, the Brightness needed to be offset by one with the Pioneer BDP-52 and with my current Denon 4010 the Contrast needs to be set to -1.
I use a 2.3 gamma ( calibrated) as well as calibrated colour to D65. Sharpness 6 and edge at 0

Settings on PS3:
RGB Full Range (HDMI) = STD
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI) = OFF
Deep Colour Output (HDMI) = AUTOMATIC
Settings on Projector
Input = ENHANCED
Color Space = RGB
Drop brightness down to compensate for the lighter picture. This was due to quirks with the JVC input when on STANDARD. Gamma 2.3

Thanks mate, basically what I ended up doing. Had to adjust the brightness and now all fine - though me thinks that my projector is in dire need of a: repair for the purple/pink strip down the side of the image, and b: pro calibration or at least a self calibration. I need a meter and software though.

In the PJ settings, I am unsure what to leave it set to, Normal or Enhanced HDMI Input.
Colour coded the quality of the image with green being awesome, orange being ok and red being bad.
On Enhanced....
- My Mac Mini's picture looks incredible, with lots of shadow detail, deep blacks etc
- PS3 menu looks same as above
- PS3 Blu Ray Movies look all washed out. Only way to fix is to adjust brightness, but the results still don't look as good as Mac.
On Normal...
- My Mac Mini's picture looks dark and lacks shadow details
- PS3 menu also looks dark
- PS3 Movies look good, but still not as good as watching episodes through VLC on my Mac with HDMI on enhanced (see above)
Id love to have it so that I don't have to keep switching HDMI input mode from Enhanced to Normal.
I must have done something wrong? Maybe I have screwed up the colour settings on the PS3... again?
