Hi
I've decided that I'm buying the CA 751BD as I'm currently in the middle of a home demo weekend with one and I'm blown away so far, but rather than keep this one I'm going to order the none chipped version as I cannot see the value in paying an extra $225 for the region free chip which I don't think I'll ever use.
The reason that I say this is that I don't buy films, I'm not a collector like many others, once I have watched a movie then I probably don't want to watch it again for a decade or so, there are of course exceptions, I've watched 'The Book of Eli' and 'Saving Private Ryan' multiple times, but they are exceptions rather than the rule.
Blu-Ray concerts, I have been, and will continue to buy many of them, but I only buy them from the likes of JB-Hifi if I want instant gratification, or Amazon UK if I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks.
So based on that, can anyone here see a reason why I should go for the modded vesion rather than the plain vanilla version? I fear that I may have not thought this through and there are other valid reasons why I need the mod which is what has prompted this qustion
I've already ordered some SACD's from Amazon UK and can't wait for them to arrive, am I correct in thinking that these are not region locked so can purchase from anywhere? the same with DVD-A?
Should I find that I do need the mod then hell I'll go for it but at this moment I cannot think of a valid reason to pay the extra $200+
Your thoughts please.
Cheers
Dave

dave great yoru enjoying the cambridge, note we already have a thread for the cambridge, would be better off posting there

in my opinion, save the bucks and go for the non modded version. as it sounds yourself like me are really only buying discs locally or from amazon uk and hence a mod is not needed.
the bonus with the cambridge is out of box it is local region blu-ray and region free for dvd. so unlike the oppo you can just buy the unmodded version and it will be just fine for you
so yeah save your bucks. it will do all you want. look down the track if you really end up wanting it. its something can add in in anycase. but good chance like me am sure you never will. spend the $200 on some blu-rays or music instead hehe

If you dont intend buying non region b bluray then the region free mod would be a waste of money.
SACD's and DVD audio discs are not region locked.

I finally got my 751 back after it's tune up from JLTI including a Terra Firma clock, all the multi channel 5532 ic's replaced with LM4562's noise reduction on all dacs. I'm very happy with the results.
