Thanks Al , yes the problem is , Screen Science only does a couple of types of screen , though they did say they could cut the gain by backing off the pearl a bit to probably 1.2 , l'm waiting to see if they can help me trade up wise etc , as the screen l have was around $1600 from memory and l don't want to take a huge loss on selling and going another brand/size

l'll check the toshy out too Al , cheers mate

hi ken good to hear have got it up and going to pretty pleasing result. If planning to change screens is it worth dialing back to a 1.1 gain screen as imagine the 1.4 gain not helping things and cant imagine its needed ? worth checking with a light meter to confirm though.

in 3D players the tosh is region free and can be had very cheaply under $100 !

3200 tosh Model for under $100 wow I have to look for it as I thought only the 1200 model was under $100. Thats a really good buy then.

hehe apologies, complete mix up on my part. I think am getting carried away  linked to the wrong model, the cheaper model is under $100 but doesnt have 3D does it. the 3200 a bit more have seen posts of $140 or so, whcih is still pretty amazing for a region free 3D player :)

Hi Guys

Noted that there was  smudge like marks on my lens last night. This morning got out purpose lens cleaner and Olympus lens tissues. Gave it a once over and now lens is gleaming. noticed it last night but did not want to clean lens while it was still hot.

Seems to be remnants of small flying insects that get toasted when they land on lens.

Well after exemplary performance my PJ has developed an issue.

The contrast looks totally washed out ie seems like there is just far too much light coming from the PJ resulting in colours and contrast to wash out during the daylight scenes. The richness of colours is not there.

I suspect it may be the iris. Even the darker scenes look like the contrast is suffering. I phoned epson service agent in Adelaide today and will be sending it in for a look.

This is why I stay clear from grey imports especially with PJ's.

Has anyone else experienced this?

On further inspection my Iris seems to be working, when watching a movie with a fade to black scene and it being enabled the whole screen goes completely black blending into the velvet border. When I set it to "normal" or "Off" and re watch the fade to black scene I can just faintly see where the screen and velvet border end.  So i guess it works and it does give blacks a little kick, however I can tell it's enabled  when viewing I see very subtle colour fluctuations when faces are shown for example. Other members in my family cant notice so I might alternate from normal to off from time to time.  I was expecting the auto iris to be nosier than it turned out to be, if it wasn't for the fact I can tell its enabled (very slight fluctuation in colour) I wouldn't even know it was on or if it was at the highest setting.

Yes sounds like it is working.  My first 9000 was DOA within the 2 weeks due to red smearing along the top edge of the picture.  However it was also very hard to get working over HDMI cable AND it's iris was really noisy making a grinding sound.  The replacement's iris is really quiet I can barely hear it. Sounds like you got a quiet iris too you should be glad.

Yes I know al. I jinxed  myself by telling you the other day that my PJ was trouble free  .. I will try bypassing the DVDO tonight to eliminate that. If still the same I will box up for repair tomorrow.

Hi got the projector back today and the guy wouldn't really tell me what was fixed up.... is that normal? Also how do you guys find the uniformity of focus on the screen? My bottom right hand corner seems to be really blurry. what is considered reasonable?

Should be a lot quieter than that mate .. Youde think if it was switched off [and it was fully open] the contrast would still be relatively ok Crist . They should give a full a/c of what they fix whatever happens ;) Were you running the iris on high ? might turn mine back a notch :brr:

I was running Iris on standard. I did try high.
A few obsevations last nigt. firstly in 3D settings if the 3D view is set to on it appears that MLL rises. I turned it off. However I am still get a very bright washed out image on the screen also noticed that there is a lot more light in the room reflected from the screen from the projector.
It is interesting that a few nights ago I was admiring the pq of Jurassic Park. The scene of the big raptor in the cage looked excellent.
The same scene last night looked washed of contrast and colours looked unnatural.

I bypassed the DVDO and went directly to the PJ but made no noticable difference.

I took it to an authorised Epson service centre today. I am now  glad  this PJ gets a lot more use than my previous Sony HW10.
My Japanese made Sony despite only 200+ hours of use gave me a sense it was a very reliable bit of kit.

I definitely will report back on what was fixed.

Thats curious Crist ; as expected the lumens goes up and the contrast wanes as the 9000 switches to dynamic mode with 3d selected . If the extra reflected light exists even in 2d with thx or cinema selected sounds like the colour presets are playing up ; just speculating
Found something at a online seller that was something new if accurate ..dont remember it in the osd ..

The auto-colour optimiser chooses a suitable colour mode, depending on the light level in the room, which allows you to concentrate on what you're watching rather than adjusting the menu settings.

Thanks for your input CWT. This seems to make a lot of sense. It seems colours have faded plus contrast is horrible especially in very bright daylight scenes  the picture looks like it is in fog whereas before the contrast and colour punch was breath taking.

Yes I have only good things to say re Sony made in Japan products. My 5000es BR hasn't mised a beat and it is a beast of a machine. My HW10 was ever reliable.

I just hope this is a hiccup because I love the pq of this PJ when it is working properly.

Whether it has along life span we will wait and see. Anyway hoping to upgrade to a 4k pj in 5 years time.

Looks like a lot of people are enjoying the Epson, thanks again Yorac. The TW9000W is my first projector and I think I picked a perfect time to step into this technology.

Can anyone confirm that the wireless HD unit that comes with the Epson TW9000W will work plugged directly into the PS3 for 3D.

My Amp is HDMI 1.3a so I need to go directly to the PJ for 3D video, 2D is fine via wireless and PS3 direct to the PJ via HDMI cable is ok for 3D also.

l'd be interested too ,,  l used it plugged into my WDTV live today to send a 3D H SBS version of Avatar to the pj , that worked no worries , but it probably has'nt the bandwidth of a full 3D BD either l'd imagine .

guys just remember the ps3 is a very expensive blu-ray player for what it does. and also crippled by its capability while doing 3D. Doesnt have enough grunt to do 3D and HD audio at the same time. Can only do one of the other. 3D and legacy lossy audio. or 2D and HD audio. Id try grab a basic 3D player instead if can :)
