Thanks for your  Al and Crist, you guys really have made me want the epson because those black levels sound great. Good to see it works so well in your room crist as your rooms sounds similar to mine. Now I have some big decisions to make......lag or no lag.....
Have a hunt for a dvdo edge like Chris has bhof ; a good value that may help with lag ;I saw one recently here that was very reasonable . Not to mention the cms that will help with colour management  :)

When playing video games, video delay is a great way to ruin the experience. In this case, you can switch on the Edge's "game mode," which reduces the amount of processing being done and consequently reduces video delay. Using a copy of Rock Band 2 on the Playstation 3, a game that is extraordinarily sensitive to delay, Game mode made it much easier to rack up a high score. When not using game mode, it was all too easy to fail miserably.

Chris ; not too  sure on the pixel alignment alignment now . The epson US site has it listed for the 5010 but not for the 6010 . I hope ours is a different spec and you find it  ;)

Really appreciate the reviews Al and Chris . Ime coming from a sony too a bit  older though a vplvw50 run in eco mode too and was curious as the iris sound was mentioned @ avs .The tip about the 12 bit colour will help when I get my dvdo duo . The website [or somewhere] mentioned it was partial 12 bit capable so makes sense :)
Curious how you go with the ir 3d emitter ;if the plug in is required ;found this on a euro site for the 9000;

~

thanks cwt. I do remember the vw50, I remember thinking of buying one and nearly hit buy on the vw60 when was initially looking at pjs. fortunately figured out just at the last minute wouldnt have fitted in my system  :D  I do remember seeing in action and for early sxrd was very good and well made the sonys to, yours a testament to sonys build that still going these years later. but with the epson PJs have come a long way and you will be suprised I think :)

not tried 3D to comment sorry.

Those screen shots of Als show just how black the blacks are ;not grey like some out there  ;) Always a good sign when you cant see where the aspect ratio margin is too -its black  :D Was there a voucher or something for the SW boxset at all ? or more specifically a  copy of your Proof of Purchase as the website mentions ?

thanks cwt, it puts out a wonderfull picture. But just hand held camera shots, not adjusted for white/colour balance or anything, and reduced heavily in resolution / detail to upload here. but hopefully something gives people an idea if wondering what its like in action :)

re the star wars give away, after registering for epson website and registering the projector, getting back to the main page theres a link on the main page for the promotion. the 9000 gets you the full 9 set of blu-rays. which after registering for those you have to send in a printout from and copy of original purchase receipt as well :)

Thanks Al; I imagine the original receipt is in the box like amazon include ;hope they turn up quicker than those hd dvd [xe1 ?] ones did if you recall.  Much better than the lesser model set ;)   Looking forward to the 9000 big time ;its amazing the advances in a few generations of proj's and the bang for the buck you get :)

Ok tonight I premiered the projector to my better half. I asked her "well what do you think about the picture quality" she replied "just superb"

That made my night. :o

We watched the Dark Knight BR. If you really want to get blown away by the blacks this thing can achieve then put this one on. The beginning scene and Gotham fly over had me literally breathless. The scene where it cuts back after the 16:9 intro to the very  dark night street scene  where it cuts to policeman then later two hoodlums  having a conversation looks truly amazing. It actually looks exactly like my plasma played it with very inky blacks. And the shadow detail is amazing. Art is spot on with his review and Matt from TCC who made the claims that this rivals the JVC x9 is starting to make me believe he is correct.
My settings are THX with Iris Normal. That's all I need to do with the pj at this stage and I am in disbelief that this unit can do .
I recall my first projector the hitachi pjtx 100 which I purchased 7 years ago and ponder in amazement how far LCD PJ's have advanced.
Everyone who is buying this will be in for a treat. I am now glad I did not buy the Pana 7000 or the JVC X3 I was offered at a very good price from a retailer here in Adelaide.

Actually Matt emails you the receipt(if interstate) or if local he can still do it. You can print of as many "originals" :D  as you like. Please follow Matt's special instructions when posting the receipt.

I posted mine off today so fingers crossed I get them b4 xmas.

Thanks Chris ; I needed an incentive to get a good printer ; easier than using the local aus post for copies   Just found a canon colour one for $20 ;it fits on the desk now Ive switched too a laptop  ;) I think the chances are good for your set ;epsons warranty implies customer responsiveness ; panasonic for example though I have read some telling posts for sure

Just finished watching BR  Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides with friends. I had to hold back my excitement when comments were coming from all directions on

the pj. I lost count of the number of times my friend's wife said wow. He also couldn't believe the clarity of the images and the great colours.  The compliments went throughout the movie. My wife cautioned them to stop because she feared my head was getting so big it would explode  :P

Checked the hours it say 10 now on the clock.

yes looking forward to how you find it in your dedicated room vierra style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

crist its great to hear its a hit with the family. look way I look at it whether you use it once a week, once a month or once a day. Its there to enjoy. and as long as brings entertainment factor thats all that matters !

ps watching a couple of foreign films. a screen shot here of a profound moment of the film incendies

IMG_3463.jpg

reason have posted is because I feel this projector really has capability to portray the moment. whether bleak or glamour it tells it like it is. and that it does just out of box.

heres another, this one from Sarah's key. Halfway through - really enjoying this film.

taken a close up of the same shot here, and where youd expect a zoom in to show up video nasties, instead its pretty clean, no screen door nothing style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Looking good in those shots Al.  Yes the carpet has finally gone in and I will be moving in during this week.  Starting to get exciting with the 9000W arriving from the GB on Monday, A-lens waiting to see the light of day (and PJ! ) from Mark, OZTS scope screen waiting to be unboxed.  Plus still got to box up all the audio gear and move that over. Hopefully within a week I will have some pics for you.

BTW thanks again for checking those aspect modes for me last week - much appreciated.

Well last night my son and daughter took ownership of the 9000 and it was 3D night  for them. I personally can't watch 3D  as I am one of those unfortunates who is affected by it. I think it has a lot to do with the fact I wear glasses but I also cant watch DLP projectors as they give me motion sickness.
Going from reports of both my son and daughter who watched Avatar in 3D it was "Awesome".
I asked my daughter if there was lots of crosstalk. Her reply indicated to me that she didn't know what I was referring to. I couldn't even use the word ghosting which was something those of us that grew up with poor reception from analogue TV would be very familiar with. So I asked her did you see any
double images. Explaining clearly what she was supposed to be seeing. This is where my son who is 12 interjected. Dad he said if I saw anything like that I would have ran in to tell you.(he is the most analytical/critical  12 year olds I have ever come ax ...a bit of a chip of the old block) So now my attention drew to him.  I have bestowed my limited :) knowledge of black levels and shadow detail and their importance to a good picture to my son many a time and he has proactively taken it on board. So I then asked him what he thought of it. He replied that it looked "cool" which is a word he uses when he is impressed
with something/anything. My daughter said it was very immersive and so sharp with vibrant colours  and a lot better than that at the local cinemaplex.

So there you have it  a third party brief review of the pj's performance in 3D through the eyes of a teenager and a 12 year old.

Good to know that it handles 3d well.
Avatar is the current king of  3d presentations . i can imagine
how immersive it would be  compared to my Viera panel.

Thanks so much Crist & Al for all of the info. Have loved reading your feedback re the 9000.

I am currently way down in the GB queue that yorac is organising & can't wait made even worse thanks to you two guys!!!

This will be my first ever PJ.  I have my dream batcave 80% completed (7 x 4.5m approx) and was really curious now that you have had your new toy for a week or so how you were finding the manual zoom & focus & the fan noise in normal mode? Is  it bothering you at all switching btw 16:9 & 2:35:1? If not could you explain (to a newbie at this) what is involved in this process?

Cheers & thanks again for your insight & brilliant screen shots.  I just don't know how I can wait till January!!
