As the topic states, how can I cause my 42" Panasonic SD plasma to stop working without looking suspicious? Any ideas? The wife won't agree to purchasing a new, bigger and better TV since as she says "there is nothing wrong with the old one"..........no nothing at all, only that it's a dinosaur!

I'm desperate to upgrade to a 60".

It only has to fool the wife not the insurance company.

Just unplug the aerial. That would fool my wife.

Been pondering....  Serious question or a joke?

If this is a serious question on how dumb your wife is... :ninja:

How about donating ur TV to charity? (hope they still accept 'em).

*If it uses a kettle plug, just pull it out enough so it looks like it's in, but isn't connecting.

*Put flat batteries in the remote.

*Just go out & buy the new one anyway & deal with the consequences later! That's always worked for me. My wife now has a rule that if I buy a new TV I have to buy her something to the value of 10% of the TV. Suits me just fine.

Andys.

Buy the kids a Wii and don't bother about the wrist strap.  Plasma probably won't last a day...

Put it on the analogue channels and tell her the tube is going because the picture is snowy and squashed.

Tell her that it won't receive the 5 HD channels and you'll have to buy an HD Set Top Box and lots of ugly cables to connect the two together, so that you can watch the HD channels.

Are plasma's plagued by electro-magnetic interference?

And the (in retrospect) obvious answer (after blyblo prompted my brain)

Overnight put on a DVD and pause the picture on some scene. Then crank the brightness and contrast to 100%.

Do the same scene for a few nights and the burn in will become apparent even to her.

Have a party, and arrange a mate to "accidentally" spill his beer down the back of it?

Buy one of those $39 power meters.

Show her how much the plasma is costing to run and explain how much you could save with a new "efficient" LCD model .

But don't do a dodgy .Karma is a bitch  -_-

I'm surprised it took 12 posts before the obligatory wife swap suggestion came up  LOL
I like the dinosaur bit too  :)

On a serious note, tell her that GEM (9 HD channel) stands for Girls Entertainment & Movies to counter 7Mate (7 HD channel) which is more a blokey channel.
Add to this the extra sport on OneHD (10 HD channel) will save you from buying Foxtel...
There's a lot less sport on OneHD these days, but she down't need to know that.

Just buy her a piece of jewellery, then go out and buy a TV the next day. She will feel guilty and wont tell you off!

Either burn in the panel as Peter suggested with a bright static image so it damages the panel or feed it an over-voltage so that the power supply fails. How to create an over-voltage or short-circuit safely though is probably the issue with that course of action. Maybe leave it out in the rain when she is away, dry it off, unplug anything important from the same circuit and stand back...

Best of luck.

Just like the way you proposed to your wife with a ring, on your knees "will you marry me?", now the Xmas is just around the corner, kneel down and tell her your Xmas wish is "I need a 60" HD tv   for your Xmas present! I am sure this would work

Good luck!
