Looks like I might be getting a 2nd hand receiver to allow setting up of a Zone 2 configuration to our new alfresco area. As it is under cover would you go for in ceiling speakers or still get outdoor styled speakers. Was thinking of something like the Krix Atomspherix or Tropix

Just for casual background listening while having a BBQ or keeping an eye on the kids while they play.

Have the Tropix myself, designed for outdoors, can get them wet and you can point them at your listening area. Sound half reasonable as well. B)
Dont have to cut holes in your eaves either.

I use a pair of Emotiva outdoor speakers. They sound pretty damn good!

Thought of using a Sonos Zoneplayer 5 and bridge? I have a couple Z5 s and just take the bedroom one out when entertaining. Certainly sound is good enough for background and then some. No wires needed just a power point.

I have a Bose sound dock I currently use but it's just an extra thing to deal with...

Another vote for the Krix, reasonable price and sound, does the job well

I did the same thing a few years ago when we built our house. I went with Studio acoustics in ceiling speakers. I tossed and turned between the stainless steal outdoor ones and the plain white ones as the white ones were 1/3 the price. I went white and have yet to have an issue with them. I installed them in 2007 so nearly 5 years in a salty air environment without a glitch.
Sound is fine for BBQ,s and swimming in the pool.
I went in ceiling for the aesthetics more so over sound purity.

I've done both in the past and definately prefer mounted speakers over in ceiling.  The mountable ones can be directed at specific area's, and because of this directionality will sound better in most applications.

Personally I have used a few different speakers, but these days I use Jamo 3A2, which sound pretty damned good, and have been drowned before in bad storms and are still going  strong.  Highly recomended....and sound better than the Krix imho to.  I got mine for $650.
