The SED and OLED display tech seems to have been quiet for quite a few years. Guessing that the rapid fall in pricing of existing LCD and plasma tech has made developing these new techs seem unprofitable.
But it seems DuPont has licensed their tech to a "leading Asian manufacturer". Could this mean we might see renewed development of AMOLED TV and possibly a product release in a couple of years?

I have a feeling this tech will prove unreliable in the long term, which is likely what manufacturers want.

They currently mass produce small screen sizes don't they - eg smartphones etc?
Is the hurdle getting sustainable numbers in larger sizes?

Price has been the killer for large displays as previous manufacturing methods had a pixel defect rate that guaranteed several defective pixels on a typical sized TV.

OLED (info) will likely only be used for panels when the profitability of an OLED passes that of an LCD. Until then OLED will be used in laptops, mobiles etc. The capability though is certainly there for 55+ inch OLED displays and alot of money is/has been invested in the last few years into this tech. Here's some old threads here and here.
Samsung and others have discovered a much cheaper method of creating these displays on a bendable medium... possible to be on walls, clothes etc. "Total recall" style picture walls would be great.
