The Presidents Cup picture was SUPERB. I had a chuckle when I flicked to 9 to compare it in SD  :D
Most times I flicked to 9 to compare they had adverts on too LOL

I made comment on the PQ of the FINA Swimming (supposedly HD) from Singapore, the graphics were great but the action was definitely SD. They assured me that all their Sport on the HD Channels was HD. This was on Facebook, so obviously their Facebook person has no tech savvy.

Well if it was on facebook it has to be true

What are peoples thoughts on the cricket from S Africa?

I think some of the the local 50 over games look better?

I agree Wags, it's not quite as sharp and marginally better than the HD cricket from India on Fox Sports, but it's pretty decent all the same (you only have to look at the Pak v SL matches to appreciate the difference HD makes!)

Better quality than the four nations from England, which to me didn't look up there with what we usually get treated to from the UK.

Overall I'm fairly impressed with the presentation of the cricket from South Africa, nice graphics, camera angles, high speed cameras, hot spot etc, OK commentary (although I prefer to listen to the ABC radio commentary). Be even better if the Aussies can get the job done tonight!!

What bitrate is Fox sport 2HD going out at now? I'm watching the cricket and any movement of the camera and the picture seems to lose a lot of resolution.

Looks fine to me too, in fact just about all HD content I have watched lately has been very good, no complaints. Haven't got movie channels so can't comment on those.

It would be nice if Davmel could provide us with the latest transponder details - and which spare channels reside on which frequencies. From where I sit, Fox Sports One HD is usually compromised a bit, as is Starpics 2 and generally speaking the movie channels don't appear to be as good as they used to. Notwithstanding, most HD channels are a bit better when the compression thing increased but not sure whether this is due to lever juggling of bit rates or some other reason.

Just had a look and agree with you - Fox Sports 1 HD is better than usual so I suspect that this is another example of 'bit rate' juggling.  The One day cricket on FS 2 HD is definately down on quality.

Picture looks ok with no movement but as soon as the camera pans I can see a loss of picture detail. The boundary rope and also crease lines are doing funny things as the camera moves also. It would be very nice to know if this is because of transmission bitrate constraints or some other reason. I'm wondering if Davmel my have his phone line tapped at the moment  :P

Just caught the end of the 2011 AFL GF on Fox Sports 3 and took great delight in watching my cats stick it to the Pies (again!)

PQ looked pretty good to me - almost as good as my Blu-Ray copy!

Agree but Fox Sports 1 HD (ALeague) was compromised again.

Recorded the 2011 AFL Grand Final on Fox Sports 3HD last Tues and it was nothing short but brilliant! Every goal and mark was delivered in HD with no ads during play. Can't wait to see the quality of the NRL Grand Final on Thursday.

LOL. I feel sorry for all you suckers still paying for Foxtel.
I was just doing another scan of the Optus C1/D3 transponders and noticed that Foxtel has squeezed a 7th 'SPARE' HD channel into the 4th (of 4 total) HD channel transponders which has subsequently dropped the bitrate of all the channels on that transponder to absurdly low levels.
Check out the current average bitrates on the 11720H transponder:

3D channel:  10.52 Mbps
Fox Sports 3HD:  10.28 Mbps
Nat Geo HD: 5.09 Mbps
Show Action HD: 4.61 Mbps
SPARE:  7.00 Mbps
UKTV HD: 3.82 Mbps
W HD: 3.72 Mbps

As far as I am concerned the only two HD channels on that transponder are the 3D channel and FS3HD. The others should have HD removed from their name. Oh wait, that's why Foxtel has moved the HD channel numbers back into the allocations used for SD channels previously! ROTFLMAO!

All you current subscribers should feel really proud to be rewarding mediocrity with payments to Foxtel.

Good grief.  Some of Foxtel's SD services get more than that.

Don't know whether to thank you or not Davmel - your're always the bearer of bad news.  Your data is proof yet again of what a rippoff the pay TV sector is becomming.

This bloody deceit and treachery reminds me of something I witnessed many years ago in an outback pub ............the publican was draining the beer from the drip trays into a bucket, mixing it with a further 2 parts water and selling it to the Aborigines for triple the price.

From my point of view, I was just haning out to see what the new AFL HD channel was like - don't think I'll bother now.

Jeeeeezus, that really is ridiculous. Out of all those channels I watch fox sports 3 and nat geo hd. I was thinking Nat Geo had dropped off in the last few months, but 5.09 is crazy bad.

The cricket highlights on Fox still look about "9" times better than live on nein!

I'm in the same boat as you........& aren't sure if i'll bother either, though i've dropped the price I expect to pay for this deteriorating HD service from Foxtel to $40/month. If they agree, i'll sign up. If they don't, stuff em, no big deal.
