Both stations play a looped tape and broadcast at 64 kbps.
Thus the total number of digital radio stations in Canberra remains at 18.

I agree you want digital radio but not the DAB+ being promoted by the CRA. It only has a comparatively small coverage area when compared to DRM

SBS Extra has a bitrate of 48 Kbit/s. They also reduced SBS Chill to 56 Kbit/s (down 16), SBS PopAsia to 64 Kbit/s (down 8), and SBS 1, SBS 2 and SBS 6 to 40 Kbit/s (down 8 each).

An announcement at the top of every hour says that SBS Extra will play Eurovision songs from May 1 and the BBC will return on June 1.

Mix 80's, Mix 90's & CW Remix have also been reduced to 32k nominal bit-rates.
It's about time a kids channel popped up, the US's had Disney Radio for many years, mainly on AM frequencies around the country.
I guess as we don't count anyone under 10 years old in the ratings, kids don't deserve a radio station with a format to suit them over here.
The music on WSFM 4 kids is quite good, & would suit kids from 2-3 through to mid teens.
It may only be a temp station though, it's related to the Nine/NBN/WIN Gold Telethon 4 Kids on 10th June 2013.
With the bit-rates though, the race is on to see who can go the lowest first.

Don't forget, Austereo effectively has Kids FM stations around regional areas, not many though, but their on air. Metro markets have never had one though, as far as I'm aware
Here in Melbourne, the space that ElfRadio used, is still vacant, maybe "Gold 4 Kids" is coming soon?

As you say, there's not many, 5 in total I think, & only around regional Victoria?
They're all Narrowcast stations too.
Are they actually still operating as Kids FM, I thought that format went by the wayside some time ago, & they're now a Country (or similar) format?

According to their website - http://www.kidsfm.com.au/ - which doesn't list all of the frequencies, they seem to be in Queensland as well
I'm under the impression that 99.3 in Euroa and Benalla are both still on air, Benalla actually use theirs for Footy broadcasts for the local Benalla Saints team in the GVFL, renaming the station "Saints FM" I'm not aware of Euroa doing this with their local "Magpies" side

Having not been to Sydney since before digital radio came along, can you (or anyone else) explain what Apna and Star Observe are? We don't have those in Melbourne

According to http://en.wikipedia....ustralia#Sydney Star Observer is a popup LGBT community radio station.

Thanks for that, meanwhile....we're waiting for ARN to at least start up the kids channel they have running in Sydney.....Why have it in one city but not any others where there's space?
My radio still has ElfRadio listed, but the service is not available, so there's space!

How often to they have an election? I thought they had one last year? I don't know where the connection is with kids programming though...

My mistake, I thought you typed Election there
Telethon....totally different kettle of fish, my apologies
Extra Note: Here in Victoria, we have the Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday appeal, which is on Seven, which spans from 9am - midnight. But now I know what New South Wales has.....
