Love Fox Sports and cannot wait for the 2013 Ashes Series in HD....while Nein will just screen a highlights package in Standard definition.

Five days to go until the first test at the Gabba, I take it by 9's non promotion of same, that it will be shown in 20th century standard definition only, while the Golden Girls will be shown on GEM in prime time?

What a joke

That's still not good enough.

Live (major) sporting events in HD is what should be happening in 2011..........

I notice they do a repeat of Frozen Planet on GEM (on the weekends I think) and you can't tell the difference between the earlier sd broadcast on 9 and the GEM broadcast.  At least One and Mate balance their bit rate allocations to produce a reasonable native HD quality (on the odd occasion they actually broadcast HD content).  I hate bloody GEM!

True, i downloaded ep6 in 720p and its from GEM and is rubbish. The 720p BBC downloads are awesome.

No HD cricket going by the TV guide, no surprise.

I share your sentiment but there is absolutley no chance of this due to the current rules which require the networks to show certain FTA sporting events on their main channels. I think there is a case however for a bit of simulcasting, ie NRL on GEM (on Friday nights for the double header) and 1 or 2  of the four designated AFL games on 7 Mate (in native HD). Again, don't see it happening but there is always hope.

I think we will have to wait for the HD channels to become the main channel after 30 Dec 2013 for a return of HD sport in Australia.

No surprise - Cricket on 9 SD only. No doubt we'll lose the last half hour of play due to the news at 6pm in the eastern states also

Must be the only developed cricket nation in the world where we can't see our national teams' matches played in our own country in full and in HD! Unacceptable in 2011 I would have thought...

They'll be watching in HD across the ditch!

We say it all the time but it's just laughable the way the FTA channels treat sport

All you hear on TV is that everything here is the "BEST IN THE WORLD"! I guess the world stops once you get to our shores!

This country is a joke with stuff like this... How hard is it???

I recently suggested that people contact channel 9 and give positive feedback regarding the HD simulcast of the Rugby World Cup finals...

Now I suggest that we should all call and complain again about this rubbish, what a joke. The only reason I can see is a cricket test match is alot longer than a Rugby game... but still, crap.

Channel 9 Sydney +61 2 9906 9999
Channel 9 Melbourne +61 3 9420 3111
Channel 9 Brisbane +61 7 3214 9999
Channel 9 Adelaide +61 8 8267 0111
Channel 9 Perth +61 8 9449 9999

Just watching the replay on Fox...makes you realise just how bad the picture is on nein! Is it just me, or is it even worse this year?

Watching earlier today, in the wide shots that show the grandstands, there's aliasing all over the place and it's just a horrible, blocky mess.

Makes you wish Kerry Packer was still alive...could you imagine his reaction seeing that shite slapped across his Jumbotron?

As I watch the replay on Fox Sports, it is really filmed in High Definition! What a laughing stock channel Nein is.  As mentioned earlier, the tour of South Africa was in HD...Guess who has the FTA rights to the ODI series in England next year....Channel Nein of course and they'll show it late at night and in Standard definition (along with the Olympics), just like in 2010.

I reckon with any cricket played outside Aus, Fox also have the rights to, regardless of any FTA deal. The last couple of Ashes/one day series from England were simulcast on both SBS and Fox sports from memory.

Hopefully that's the case next year!

Hopefully the other sports follow the AFL's lead and everything is simulcast on Fox (although that in itself is ridiculous, why don't the FTA channels just show sport live and in HD!?)

G'day,

Been watching on Nine for the past couple of days, and now on the road, watching on WIN

I get the impression that WIN is recieving a HD feed, but playing it on their SD channel while GEM plays something else

The only way I can tell, is the WWOS logo is shown in the 16:9 area here

I'd hardly call an extra 20 minutes or so on a low bit rate piece of crap masquerading as a HD channle as positive.

WOWEE, I nearly fell off my chair when I read this lol.
Now all we need is for them to simulcast on GEM in HD.

Did it happen at all during the second test?

Don't think so...play ended early each day due to bad light or rain. Or in today's case, because the Aussies capitulated! See ya later Hughes...tell your story walking, pal...

Good, let Fox Sports show it properly live in HD.
