The rumour was Huddo was going to Fox Footy. Seems likely, given Seven really only need 2 commentary teams. McAvaney/Commetti and Taylor/McLaughlin/Darcy, and Fox have one extra game to cover each week.
Quartermaine is staying at Ten as their sports anchor and news fill in (same role he has had for years) AFAIK.

Hosko who frequents these forums is the main man for explaining all this...but from what I understand, Global (who supply the OB gear for Fox's broadcasts) have bought out Cutting Edge (who supplied OB gear to Ten). Plus there have been an extra couple of HD trucks come online in the last month or two.
Seven uses Gearhouse to supply their equipment, which I believe is already HD equipped (although it's anyone's guess as to why they downscaled everything to SD previously).
If the broadcasters demand HD, and a company that provides the OB facilities wants the contract, then it's in their interest to upgrade their fleet.
In any case, I bow to your infinite wisdom on such matters Hosko, so please correct me if I'm wrong!

Thats correct Global has purchased Cutting Edge who have a lot of HD equipment, they purchased stacks to shoot the last season of big brother on Ten in HD. Between Global and Cutting Edge last year there was at least 3 games of AFL in HD a week. Add to that Global has built another HD truck and its not hard to see them doing all 5 very easily. That and the contract will be for every game to be in HD, so they will provide equipment for it. I see the big loser next year being NRL as its the last year of the broadcast rights, so its the last year of the OB provider contracts which don't have HD written into them. That will change the following year but next year could be interesting. My brother knows more about it but he's gone to ground.

How will FOX SPORTS broadcast live games simultaneously?
FOX FOOTY will always be the primary destination for live Games, however if there is a clash becasue there are 2 games on simultaneously, then the “other” live game will be on FOX SPORTS 1. In short though, all 9 Games per week will be shown LIVE across both FOX FOOTY and FOX SPORTS 1.

It will be interesing to see whether the Foxtel games scheduled for the non traditional venues, ie Darwin, Cairns, Canberra, Hobart (3 games), Launceston (3 games) will be broadcast in native HD. I suspect that on some weekends it may only be 4 out of the 9 games in native HD; still that's an improvement on 2011 when Foxtel basically 'dropped the ball' in relation to their hd coverage.

It's hard not to assume come mid-way through the season most games will be in SD and we will all be here complaining how Fox Footy has conned us all!
Cannot believe it's 2012 and we are still talking about HDTV as if it is a new experiment and how we are lucky to get anything in native HD.

Its not going to start scaled down, these guys sign contracts for equipment to be supplied and its exactly what they will get. Its the same reason why even though Ten wasn't showing games in HD towards the end of the season they still got HD equipment supplied because it was contracted that way.

If the summer sporting calender is any guide ie Big Bash and A League soccer, it looks like Foxtel is addressing the weak spots (Hobart & Perth) in its outside broadcast hd capacity. Nevertheless, suspect on average, Fox will be able to cover about 4 out of its scheduled 5 games in native HD. There's so much live sport, ie NRL, Super Rugby etc that it wil be a stretch for them to cover 5 AFL games every week at every location in HD. So if you combine the FTA and pay coverage, theoretically this will mean a majority of AFL games (5 out of the 9) will not be in native HD.
I guess it also boils down to a matter of opinion whether one regards upscaled sd telecasts as HD. One constant which we can rely on is that for FTA viewers, the channel 7 games will retain the mantle as the worst outside broadcast quality sporting coverage of all time.
