The conversation would go something like this:

AFL - "we would like you to give Fox Footy a HD feed of your matches"
Seven - "Is it in the contract?"
AFL - "No"
Seven - "Well take your 1billion dollars and shut up"

God knows why it wasn't in the broadcast terms that every game had to be produced in HD and made available. I would guess that there would be a term that if Seven broadcasts a match in HD they would have to provide Fox Footy a HD feed by I'm only guessing. Could be a long 5 years.
Only 484 channel 7 games to go!
(Assuming I can add!)

Fox Footy channel last night were showing some clips of previous years opening round highlights of the Carlton v Richmond game going back to about 2007, yep and you guessed it,  2007 & 2008 were clearly HD shots (from 7) and as it progressed to 2011 gradually the picture quality got worse...................I reckon there's a direct inverse corelation between the increasing value of the rights deal and the decreasing quality of the picture.

The Thursday night Richmond v Carlton season openers have been Channel 10 games in previous years.

Maybe Fox should bring up a small message at beginning and end of each quarter when showinf 7 feeds:

We apologise for the poor picture quality caused by an inferior (non-HD) feed supplied by Channel 7

I dont understand, but surely for future archival purposes surely the AFL would want everything filmed in HD. It would be like filming in 4:3 in the early 2000's.

Maybe the DVD's of the games are done in HD that Seven does and maybe the reason why its done in HD because they can make money from HD

I have been saying this about 7 for years,,,,as a person who sells tvs i would of liked to of had all the stores displays on footy fri nights but the Picture quality on 7 is just horrid to say the least on all these new hd panels. It doesnt look so bad on a 32inch which used to be the standard large size that would fit into the square cabnets 10 years ago,,,,but unfortunately most people buy 50 to 60 these days.Watching 7 on my hd projector is an epic fail,,,,unless i want to sit 20 metres away lol.

Actually the 7 sd picture quality of AFL on VAST is about 100% better than last year..............which still puts it at about a -5 on the watchable scale.

Apparantly they were talking about this on Footy Classified this week.

For the games shared by Se7en and Fox, it will NOT be HD. For the games exclusively on Fox, it will be HD.

So anything with Se7en involved gets SD on Fox.

THIS MEANS NO GRAND FINAL IN HD!  What are the AFL thinking allowing this?

Imagine the impact of AFL in HD in pubs and clubs on Friday nights around the country! That is just a pipe dream now. Wasted opportunity to expand our game...

Its what ive been expecting all year. and the foxtel website in the FAQs says that the ch7 games will be upscaled.

Have people called up Foxtel to make an official complaint? I know one person at work who doesn't normally care about this stuff rang up Foxtel to lodge an official complaint.

Nothing will happen if you all just sit there & take this BS from Foxtel......

What Fox can do about it is not advertising 'Every game live and in HD' when they could never deliver that.

they could just take the easy way out and say the channel is broadcast in 1080i. its not Fox's fault

Yes, but....all of "their" games will/should be in native HD. I'd be very surprised if they weren't, given the track record of the recent pre-season comp.

I am happy that there was no ads in play. It's Channel 7 who does not want to have a HD camera. How do I submit a complaint to Channel 7?

It's the AFL who should be up in arms, no way to promote their premium sport, in SD.

It should have been written into the rights agreement that all parties are to record and broadcast games in HD.

Shows how long it has been since Andrew Demetriou watched a game on TV, why would you i suppose with the seats he would have!

7 won't move on this until analogue is switched off!

PS - Sorry Hosko, just read ur post, agree 100%. Having been saying this since the first game was televised under the new agreement. Can't believe the AFL missed this opportunity!
Hence my Andrew comment!

How did Fox Footy compare to Se7en tonight? Like last week, where FTA was said to look better if anything?

I thought tonight they looked very much the same, last week the fox pq was definately better than ch7 pic which had plenty of noise around the players.

Seven was more sharper,Foxtel soft on my Kuro, like wheelz said very much the same. So much for the hype by Foxtel about HD upscaling what's the saying about polishing a turd!!

I reckon the channel 7 games on Fox Footy look worse than when Fox did games in SD on Fox Sports HD last year.
The two games so far have looked terrible, the long range shots with the camera zooming in on the G were a blurry mess
