Sevens SD coverage is shocking compared to Fox Footy. Can't beleive how bad that rubbish is. Will be interesting to compare Seven and upscaled Foxtel.

This is what I want to know asap.

No doubt 7 will be the same crap ,its what fox's upscaling  does to the image where waiting to see. Also long as that haloing /noise that is around the players on 7 broadcasts is gone on the fox broadcast it will be an improvement.

Yeah the halo/noise bits around the players is missing on fox but there on 7 which is what i was hoping but over all not a big improvement. Ah well we suspected this, atleast no ads.

Pathetic, Se7en.

So all my Essendon games on Foxtel will look average……definitely not going Foxtel then...

I did the comparison between Fox and 7 also, while the difference wasn't huge, it was noticeable.

Still a far cry from Fox native HD.........

Let me understand this correctly;

Foxtel are using their own HD cameras to film their exclusive 5 games?

Se7en are using their own SD cameras to film their 4 games?

So when Se7en hand off their games to Foxtel, they're giving them an SD feed?

It's not like Se7en are withholding a HD feed to sell off overseas etc - all they have is an SD feed correct???

Not true, most of Seven's matches are produced using HD trucks provided by Gearhouse Broadcast. However a HD signal never leaves the truck. I believe the reason is they want to show different programming on 7mate and don't want it widely known that they could be showing the match in HD. This way they can sell two different ads for each channel. Simulcasting you only sell the one ad across both channels.

No they could give Fox Footy a HD feed. Channel Nine does it for there NRL coverage. They also produce macthes in HD and like Seven don't broadcast in HD themselves. However they give a HD feed to Fox Sports.

If 7 were smart they would show the games in SD on 7 & HD on 7mate and send fox their SD feed. I for one would watch 7mate ad's and all rather than the upscaled fox version.Hopefully its something they think about next year.

I think most people would (well I would at least) who cares about 'no ad-breaks siren to siren', I'd much prefer HD and a few ads

The upscaled version on 7mate here in Cairns was actually a better quaity than Fox HD upscaled version.  Poor form Foxtel/Austar!

PS: It looks as though VAST have decided to take the main channel (7sd) for the AFL coverage this year rather than Mate.  Sevens PQ (as it comes over on VAST) has definately improved a bit over last year but is still pretty ordinary.

Thanks, Hosko.

So Nine don't care that their PayTV competition is a vastly superior alternative for every game.....that's interesting.

I am happy that there was no ads in play. It's Channel 7 who does not want to have a HD camera. How do I submit a complaint to Channel 7?

But Fox Sports isnt showing a HD feed live against Ch9's SD feed - Fox Footy is....

I only saw the game for a short time, i heard the commentators were not talking during the ad breaks, deliberate from channel 7?

I thought Fox were going to use there own commentary?

Too bad Ten/One didn't get the rights over Seven, the are totally farked.

Fox are not allowed to use there own commentary team. and if Ten got the rights it would be the same, they stopped doing HD games halfway through last season, watch the replays on fox from late last season the ten games are upscaled also.

That was because they cracked the sad's at losing the rights, before that it was mostly HD.

Foxtel should of said that 7 cant touch the Fox games for there own use [like how SA, WA, NSW and QLD get all there teams games on 7] unless 7 give Fox the HD feed. like round 1 Perth get 5 games on Ch7

I hate Se7en!

Biggest disappointment so far in 2012. It's a disgrace that our national game is treated this way.

I wonder how long it will take for the hierarchy at the AFL to realise how inferior the channel 7 matches look "in stunning HD" compared to fox footy's own games....

The AFL clearly have some "ownership" of the broadcast of their product for want of a better description, going on the disclaimers I have seen at the end of a fox broadcast. Would they be in a position to demand Se7en film their matches in HD? Or is it solely at the discretion of the broadcasters?

I realise it isn't in se7ens interests to provide matches in HD, given they aren't doing it themselves, but it's just a shame the powers that be couldn't find a work around - Fox doing some sort of deal with se7en to ensure every single game was in native HD. surely it would be worth a few more subscriptions if it was an absolute iron clad guarantee? It's not like there aren't enough HD trucks to go around these days!

Just watching the replay of the GWS v Sydney game now. Agree with the general sentiment here... A far cry from native HD, but a significant improvement over the mosquito noise ridden crap dished up on FTA!

D.

The conversation would go something like this:

AFL - "we would like you to give Fox Footy a HD feed of your matches"
Seven - "Is it in the contract?"
AFL - "No"
Seven - "Well take your 1billion dollars and shut up"

God knows why it wasn't in the broadcast terms that every game had to be produced in HD and made available. I would guess that there would be a term that if Seven broadcasts a match in HD they would have to provide Fox Footy a HD feed by I'm only guessing. Could be a long 5 years.
