Haven't heard of an issue with the noise floor on the Integras - perhaps yours is faulty.

A lovely Christmas present awaited me tonight.....NOT
Haven't used my theatre in about 6 weeks due to having no free time. Was looking forward to sitting down tonight to watch Dark Knight Returns. Put the disc in, went to make a coffee while the projector warmed up....
No sound. What so ever. Went through all of the usual checks of the attached Oppo, checked all cabling, amp, seaton speakers, all appeared fine. Tried 2 other HDMI sources, exactly the same. Tried an optical source and an analogue. Also the same.
With the HDMI sources, the picture is fine, the little HDMI on the display flashes as though its trying to lock onto the audio signal, but no signal is ever received, nothing comes up on the channel indicators.
Other odd things I have noticed. In the setup menu, item 8. Remote Controller Setup is greyed out, also, Network Setup and firmware update options are greyed out, and I've always had it setup on my hard wired network
I have tried doing a factory reset by holding VCR/DVR and pressing ON/Standby, but nothing has changed. Has anyone got any ideas.
The unit is an Onkyo 5508 which is identical to the 80.2
So annoyed as I've been so looking forward to catching up on some movies now I have a few days off.

Roachy, will it play the test tones in the speaker set-up?

Edit: does the tuner produce sound?

That's a damn shame roachy, I wonder if hdmi cable ? Though given does the same on non hdmi inputs got me scratching my head. Wondering if someone out there in forum land has something eg a spare avr or pre pro sitting there they can lend you to verify a processor issue or better still tide you over. It must be a bugger especially since been a while since enjoyed the system. Otherwise yeah guess later in the week till get it to a service centre and then god knows how long. Hopefully things get sorted one way or the other. Sorry to hear :)

On/Standby (➔ 100).

Thanks all for your suggestions. Quark, there is no sound from either the test tones or the tuner. Yorac, have tried resetting again with the network cable unplugged but unfortunately no change. Looks like a trip to the service centre is on the cards. Any recommendations?

Agree, sounds like it has a problem.  I know there's been some mixed experiences with JLS, but they are an accredited Integra repairer and likely to have better knowledge than most.  I've used them once and didn't have any issues apart from a week's wait for parts from Japan.  Not sure if Ambertech (local distributor) are like Qualifi and refuse to supply parts for grey imports (noting yorac's comment above re: it coming from Singapore).  Might be best if you have a story along the lines that you bought it while living in Sg for work...

can recommend JLS as well, have used them few times over the years. if purchased overseas they'll hopefully just treat it as out of warranty :)

If this is the case, I suspect the entire board may need replacing....this is what happened to my 80.1 (same symptoms....no analogue/digital input/output or test tone, no factory reset, firmware update etc) and it is a known problem.
This is how I obtained the brand new 80.3, I had for sale....compliments Ambertech.

Another customers experience with the same problem- here

Thanks again for everone's suggestions. Well its looking more an more like a faulty HDMI board. I guess I have two options at this point,
First is to take it to the local repairer and get it fixed 'out of warranty' for god knows how much, or
Seeing as the unit was purchased from KEC in Singapore, perhaps I could ship it back there and get it fixed within warranty. This of course depend on the warranty period provided by Onkyo Singapore. I purchased the unit back in April 2011, so as long as the warranty is 2 years or more I may be ok? Does anyone know for sure how long the warranty may be?

In Aus and US Onkyo warranty is three years - expect Sg would be the same.

Shipping the unit to Singapore and back will be very expensive - it's the cost back to Singapore that will be a killer. Keeping in mind no insurance either way so if doa or damaged in transit could be a total loss. Another option will be local repairer to see what's needed to fix it and then get Singapore retailer or agent there to send the required parts under warranty. This way you only pay for shipping of some light weight parts one way rather than a big bulky item both way. Plus of course be up for labour to swap out a board say which shouldn't be too much. Anyways just another option to weigh up, one that's worked for a few I know, though unsure if possible with onkyo/ integra :)

Cheers Al. Gives me another option. I'll try getting in contact with JLS over the next few days and go from there
