There appears to be/have been issues with the screen filter peeling according to AVS Forum.
There appears to be a fix for it and is being done to all new Samsung PS64D8000 plasmas, so there may be a benefit in having to wait for my TV afterall.

Anyone had experience with this peeling issue or any other problems?

No don't have any evidence of peeling or buzzing with my set. Only issue I've had in the first month of ownership is fluctuating brightness (FBr) which if I had the option I'd turn off even if it meant sacrificing a little bit of picture quality.

I have not had any of those issues on my set.

I have been following that thread on the AVS forum and it seems to me that the peeling issue is confined to mainly USA

I've seen 1 in jbhifi at Colonades that had a small amount of screen peel in the top left hand corner, the next time I went into the store they had a price sticker over that corner of the screen and I couldn't see if it had worsened. That was when they were first released in Aus but I've checked out a number of d8000's since then and they show no signs of the problem so maybe it not an issue anymore. I don't think it would be too much to worry about as I think it would probably occur well within the warranty period if it was to happen.

I've read that they have a problem with 2-2 cadence, not sure exactly what that is, and was wondering if there is a work around of this issue?

Cheers

What you couldn't of moved the price sticker to check???

Well I just checked mine again and guess what, no screen peel there!

And WTF is 2-2 cadence??

I think this is in reference to the review posted on the British forum - quite a good review I reckon. :) :P

http://www.avforums....-TV-Review.html

"In the cadence tests, the PS64D8000 had no problems correctly detecting the 3:2 (NTSC - USA/Japan) tests, producing rock solid images that were free of artefacts, however much to our surprise it failed the 2:2 (PAL - European) test using both Auto1 and Auto2. We're not quite sure what has happened here as Samsung displays have had no problems with 2:2 cadence in the past so this was something of a disappointment."

It appears from their review of the Panasonic, it has similar problems with 2:2 cadence. A link to the 65" Panasonic review is near the top of the Sammy review.

The picture looks good to the human eye, imo its best to not go searching for issues that are trivial, otherwise you will always be noticing that so called issue.

The Americans love nit picking every little thing on technology.

Thankfully us aussies are not like that to that extent.

I agree not to go looking for PQ issues, but I don't think the Yanks are more nit picky than Aussies. We are talking about enthusiast forums and review sites/forums, so of course you're gonna get those that just expect more from their devices. Most people (yanks or aussies) are happy enough with what is available because what other choices are there....no device is perfect. They all have their foibles!

i picked mine up yesterday and set it up. With just the default picture settings this set looks amazing.
blueray and 3D are great. Even played call of duty black opps in 3D last night. now let me tell you that was an experience. I hope all xbox games come out in 3D now :-)

I'm not so much into 3D movies but agree 3D gaming can be bloody brilliant if done right. It was one of my motivations in buying the Sammy. Really looking forward to Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception in 3D obviously.  :D

I read on the AVS Forum there is a fix involving placing washers or'o' rings between the filter and the bezel where the top 7 screws are, to prevent the peeling.

Power cycle your devices and re-establish the connection. Make sure you have the parent folder and all contents shared

I picked up my Sammy about 4 weeks ago and it came with the peeling screen top right - not happy! So I placed a call to Samsung and they replaced the panel, right there in my living room a week later. The peel had not yet reached the viewable area of the screen, but on a $3k+ set I wasn't going to accept it.

All good now.

This is one amazing TV. Everyone that sees the picture comments how good it is. It really is like looking through a window and being there.

Cheers
Horaldo.

Well, day 2 with my 64" D8000 and im pretty sure its developed a fault. First day it was fine, PQ was surprisingly good (wasnt expecting much out of Foxtel and SD DTV signals), however all of a sudden on the second day, PQ has deteriorated substantially and the left hand third of the screen seems to have partially corrupted, with large bars visible and the image out of alignment across those bars (so for example, a straight line across the screen has steps in it).

Heres a couple of pics to show what i mean Pic 1, Pic 2

note that even the black bar between the bezel and the picture are out of alignment.

i have isolated the issue to the tv, as its there even with no sources plugged in.

will be contacting samsung today to get it sorted. bit of a pita after just getting the monster up on the wall! nevermind..

just spoke to samsung and they have directed me to update the firmware, there is a version that came out on 2 Sept LINK note you have to run the download on your computer first then select the USB to install it on, before plugging the USB into the telly.

they said it fixes a range of bugs, including vertical bars visible in the image. if not, they said contact the retailer for a DOA replacement (available within the first 14 days). Fingers crossed..

Don't bother with FW upgrade. Just get a DOA replacement.

That's what I would do!

The TV should work straight out of the box regardless of firmware updates or not.

Very tempted to do that, but it's a big hassle and really I just want it to work as it was. My real concern is if it's a hardware issue, in which case a f/w update won't do anything, so no harm trying - besides, what electronic device these days doesn't require endless f/w updates (even straight out of the box)! It's pretty much standard now..

Anyway, just updated it and the issue is gone - all back to normal and looking good! Phew, one problem with my new set-up down, two more to go (hum in my speakers and av gear too hot in new cabinet).

That's a relief. Surprised that a firmware update would fix a problem like that, especially one that developed a couple of days after using the TV.

Have you tinkered with the picture settings yet or are you just using one of the default presets for now?

The firmware update definitely did not fix the problem, the system reset invoked after the update did or the fault came good on its own.

If the firmware was faulty from new the set would never have worked and if the firmware or system memory is getting corrupted by a hardware fault the problem will almost certainly come back.
