Rewind then press a number button.

To go back to the start of a movie in timeshift, if you the movie has not ended yet, you might consider pressing R to record the movie (which includes the part already in the timeshift buffer), then play it as a recorded programme.
Good to know thanks.

One of the good features of the Magic but probably not widely known about, it is brilliant if you get half way through a programme on live TV and think oh I would like to record that.

More info in the manual 6.10 page 49.

Hi,
Is it possible to set a 30 second jump. I find that most ad breaks are x min 30 sec or so long. Jumping forward by, say, 3 min gets you into the program too far in.

Hitting the replay button takes you back 10 secs, just hit once or twice usually works for me.

The sneaky TV networks 4 minutes skip is too long and 3 too short. Then sometimes you get SBS where 2 minutes is the go.
I admit to being lazy and hit 3 minutes and let the last few ads come through.

Try "2" then ">|".

Thanks for that wklie seems to work well for the commercial channels I guess the ">]" is equal to a 90seconds skip forward.

">|" is  30 seconds and "|<" is -8 seconds.

Hi,
Last night I had set MAGIC to record Catalyst on ABC1. Depsite this being done from the EPG and with the end extended by 10 minutes the machine only recorded 1 repeat 1 minute. I've seen this happen on the old YESS which MAGIC has replaced. Anyone got any idea what has happened?

My guess is you had two other different channels set to record at the same time or it thought you had.  This should not happen as it usually trumpets a warning it you try to set too much and require a priority of recordings.

So, if this is not the case you are faced with a confused MAGIC which might repeat the error.  In this case you will probably have to do a factory reset, a rescan & set up recordings once more.  The previous recordings will be OK.

Yes, a PIA, but like all processor controlled gear (including PCs of course) they get confused sometimes, as we do.  They are getting more & more human like every day! :purple:

Power loss / signal loss (you or the ABC) / other timers /  hard drive full

Do you have the Freeview version that tracks the start and end of programs?

Try setting the next weeks Catalyst from the EPG in the same way. See what's shown in the timer list.

Regards

Hi,
Thanks guys. I doubt the short recording resulted from a power loss as my set up includes a UPS. However, last night when we were watching a recorded show MAGIC suddenly shutdown and reset itself. I'll do a factory reset etc today and see what happens but suspect a fault which will require a warranty replacement.

Suggestion:  While you are at it try to reinstall the 5.,08 firmware - this might not be possible but worth a try.

1. If you happen to have a DC power supply of 12V and >= 3A output, you may try that instead of the Magic TV power supply.
2. Please disable Setup -> Timeshift -> Instant Rewind
3. If possible, make sure the signal reception is good

Hi,
Thanks wklie, I'd been out in the garage trying to find the spare power supply I'm sure I have, somewhere.  Signa level on all channels, on RF Monitor, show 60% strength and 99% quality.
I've done a factory reset [2 actually] and now find that when trying to set a record form the EPG [It's the one which comes with the 5.08 firmware and I'm using the tabular view with programs for a particular channel arranged one below the other] that as a I move the cursor down the list that, after two or three steps, the date selcted suddenly increments by 1 and refuses to come back again until i jump the cursor back to the channel list. The YELLOW button is shown as giving a -24 hour step but does nothing, the +24 button works fine. I haven't yet tried to do a TIMER recording set up. I've checked the firmware is 5.08

When you press the Yellow button, did the LED on the remote flash?  Also, you may verify the yellow button in the Recorded Programme List, if I remember correctly.

The yellow button does nothing on my EPG -24 as well. I think you will find that the broadcasters do not transmit historical EPG data and of course the Magic updates to the latest as you use it.

Yellow in Recorded Prog list sorts the list into alphabetical order. I prefer to use red (sort by date) for my viewing habits.

Edit: I also get 63% signal 98%quality so that is quite normal my Homecast is the same.

I just checked and my EPG date only increments by one day even if you keep scrolling through multiple days.

The yellow button is not meant to show historical EPG data (which is not transmitted).  It is functional AFTER you pressed +24 Hours for one or more times.

Ok - have read the last few pages and sold on this pvr.
Where is the best place to buy currently (live in Melb).
I did a search and eBay came up with about $350.

Thanks in advance
