It should be.  Please try the Firmware Upgrade function and see if it can find the firmware.

Is there a way to have a Recorded Programme name appear as the first column in the multi-column recordings' listing ?

Having it appear in the last listing column makes it, in my opinion, unnecessarily more difficult to find the recorded program you're looking for - perhaps choosing a particular sort order (using colour buttons) would also make the selected sort cirteria (eg name) appear in the first column in the recorded programmes listing...?

Other than the above, I think the UI is excellent - thanks...

Just a tip if your Magic box does exhibits strange behaviour then a >Settings>System>Factory Reset may help.
I had to do it to make a firmware update from USB to 5.08 as it would not detect my USB stick it did after a reset. ( Did not fix my WiFi Dongle non function though).

It is a pain though as you then have to set up from scratch again scan channels set up favourites etc.

P.S. still good pricing at Jungle Jumble.

EDIT: Whoop the factory reset has fixed my WIFI dongle errors just had to reinput my router security and after a couple of minutes hey presto took a look behind and I have flashing green light and weather forecast for Brisbane.

Thanks to Wklie for posting firmware links.

Usually a reboot would be sufficient to cure USB detection.

Yes thats what I thought, tried power off and on. Anyway factory reset has cured all my problems and the new firmware has made the Magic better than ever the last channel recall is quite handy. The Magic Gadgets are a novelty but not of much use.

Have you tried powering off completely? To standby, then off at the wall; leave off for, say, 5 minutes, and then power up again.

I have not waited for any length of time but we had a power outage few weeks ago so it was off for a couple of hours. Got to say the factory reset was a last resort after trying half a dozen times to upgrade firmware via USB and different sticks. My WiFi dongle has not been working for months  and now is after the reset and firmware update.
I was surprised to say the least I was sure the dongle was cactus. Thats why I recommend the Factory Reset if rebooting does not solve the problems.

Seeing as my Magic is behaving I have been playing. With 1 Terabyte of storage hardly necessary but I have copied some recordings to USB storage device. Really simple to do through the menus but takes considerable time. You end up with various folders but one is titled .ts and contains the video data.ts. This file plays directly on the computer through something like kmplayer and can be imported into VideoReDo for editing. The file or edited file can be renamed .mpg and will play in most media players.

Copying or moving files onto a Hardrive is so easy compared with a Toppy with Altair etc.

I have noticed that firmware 5.08 seems to have cleared the i-plate mini EPG showing historical data instead of current programme data.

I also tried recording direct to a USB device but did not have much success must have been doing something wrong.

I have plugged a 1TB Western Digital Elements drive into the USB slot and it worked great. The WD USB hard drive does not use external power, and I thought it would not work being powered by the Magic USB slot.

Yes,I have done that too, but I thought you could only transfer recordings from the internal HDD to an external HDD, not record from the Magic to ext HDD

- The USB HDD should be in NTFS format or (Magic TV) ext2/ext3, 3.5" with its own power, and of size 2TB or smaller
- Try to disable instant rewind, as having that feature will lock any recording of currently watching channel to the system HDD
- Even with instant rewind enabled, recording of any non-watching channel should go to the preferred HDD if it has enough free space

All good just doing another test recording into my Iomega 2TB external drive. The blue indicator light is flashing so it looks like it is working O.K.

Might have found a bug in 5.08 firmware not sure if anybody else is getting it. When I switch to standby and turn back on all the EPG data is gone except for the channel which was on when you turn the box off (standby).
Have to cycle through all the channels to reload the EPG damn annoying.

Are you sure that the EPG for the channel you are on when you restart was really saved? It only takes about 30-40 sec for the EPG for the channel you're on to load its EPG.

Having to scan the broadcasters to load the whole EPG is a consequence of how the EIT (non-Freeview) EPG is broadcast. It's like this om most, if not all, PVRs. Beyonwizes hide this a bit by saving the EPG at shutdown and reloading it at startup. But you still need to channel-surf to update the EPG.

I found that happened after the 5.07 beta too.

If you have the Standby Mode chosen as "Fast Startup", it should not clear all the EPG data.  If you found EPG data cleared in this case, it might be a bug.

If you have the Standby Mode chosen as "Energy Saving" or "All off", it will lose the EPG data (by design) because EPG data is not saved to persistent storage.

Thanks Wklie good work. It did appear to be in "Fast Startup" mode so all I did was switch to Energy Saving and then back to Fast Startup and this morning the EPG data is still there. All Good many thanks bloody computers and their quirks.

You need to plug in your USB drive firstly should get "USB device ready for use" then go >recorded programs>Options(OK)>you will see copy or move file to USB. ( it does not show up on the menu if you have not got a drive plugged in.)

I am finding out loads of things with the Magic with a little help from Wklie I am liking it more and more.
