Just messing on the Harmony setup menu and it accepts MTV4000PVR if you type that in for model although MTV3700TD works too as they both have the same remote. I think the 5000 and 3000 are American or Hong Kong models.

PS I have a WD 1TB My Book external hard drive connected to my Magic because I filled up the internal drive and then never watched the majority of what I recorded. It works seamlessly just takes a few seconds to recognise the drive when switching on from standby.

Hi,
Thanks for the info, just ran the setup for MTV4000PVR and it works perfectly.

Trying to sort out a friends Magic not working properly.  Trying to format a different HDD I popped in.  Has W7 OS on the HDD.  Is there a format option from the pvr interface or do I need to format on the PC?  Thx

Edit...found the relevant post earlier in the thread, thanks.

Replacing the HDD seemed to have fixed the problems (freezing, skipping on recorded material or timeshifting).  Thanks to the contributers of the forum!

MTV3700TD Firmware 4.52 beta 3 (for Freeview EPG users only):
http://www.magictv.c...4_52AUbeta3.zip

Firmware date: 2013-5-3

Change list from 4.51:
- Precisely start and stop recording Freeview CRID bookings (Beta, see note below)
- Mute button now works in menus
- Fix occasionally does not auto standby after auto wakeup for recording when standby mode is Energy Saving or All Off
- Fix uppercase file extensions not recognized for AVCHD file playback
- Fix one-touch channel button display
- Reduce Channel Service Not Available false alarm
- Add Chinese menu language

Previously all MTV3700TD firmwares would fallback to timer-based recording if CRID is incorrect, so users will still hopefully have a portion of a booking recorded.  However, this design didn't always match the CRID transitions precisely.

This firmware changes this behavior and is therefore riskier than usual.  By installing it means you trust all the networks to broadcast CRID accurately and perform CRID transitions precisely every single time, such that padding will no longer be necessary (if this works).  If the CRID is not accurate or if there is a critical bug in this beta recording mechanism, then the programme will not be recorded at all (unlike previous firmwares).

If any of you choose to try this firmware, I'd be interested in knowing the results.

Hi wklie, I have been using the new firmware for a few weeks and have not used padding. So far I have not had an issue with missing pre-recorded programs and the starts and stops are fairly accurate - within a few seconds . However, I still have the issue with series recording,  where occasionally a program will show up in the EPG them as "to be recorded". However, when I go to the the "to do list" some of the programs are listed as  "no episodes".
Regards Brad

Thanks for taking the risk and giving feedback.  For the "No episodes" on MTV3700 series recording, it means the Magic TV has already recorded all designated episodes when you originally made the booking.  Naturally the list of all episodes defined at booking time could not be infinite (e.g. for daily news), so Freeview EPG has the capability to update your bookings to include new episodes gradually.  I believe this booking update mechanism should have been fixed a few months ago.

Please give me a list of all bookings that exhibit this behavior, including its channel number, programme name, usual start day & time, and CRID (if it's still on the to-do list).  Please also state your region.  I'll then pass this information to Freeview.  Thanks.

Wklie, information you were after.

I only found one example that shows "R" in the EPG guide, and shows "No episodes" in the To Do List

Channel number: 7 digital
Programme name: Home in WA
Usual start day & time: Saturday at 2.00 pm
CRID: //seven.net.au/se1xqteJ
Location: Perth

Here's MTV3700TD 4.52 beta 5 firmware for Freeview EPG users:

Firmware date: 2013-6-14

http://www.magictv.c...4_52AUbeta5.zip

It does not solve the No Episodes problem (which is unlikely to be a PVR firmware bug) mentioned above, but it fixes a different issue that may cause the start of recordings on Seven Network to be delayed slightly (less than 60 seconds).

For those of you using the Freeview EPG and Episodes. I don't have a Magic but for Ch 10 shows do you see any Episode data? I've been tracking CRIDs on another PVR and I see them on all stations except network 10. Just wondering if the Freeview version sees different data to what I see,

thanks
John

MTV4000 Firmware 6.03 beta
http://www.magictv.c..._6_03AUbeta.zip

Firmware date: 2013-6-18

Change List:
- Add: When Magic TV is standing by in "Fast Startup" mode (default), it automatically retrieves EPG data from all channels, such that you'll have a complete and up-to-date EPG the next time you wake it up

(By the way, it seems that you guys' queries to the distributor about Magic TV availability has caused it to give some thought about re-importing Magic TV, although it does not look like a decision has been made to change the current situation on availability.)

That's a brilliant addition. I wish all TVs and PVRs and set top boxes had that feature. I'll be updating my magic this weekend now.

Maybe some good news on the horizon for those who missed out.
Downloaded and testing latest beta now but with previous firmware releases the 7 day EPG remains in place after standby in Fast Startup mode.

If you are using the WiFi dongle remove first before doing a beta USB upgrade otherwise the Magic looks at the internet upgrade to 6.01 by default unless you are already on 6.01

Yes, that's true.  The new 6.03 beta allows it to continually update to the latest EPG data, in addition to retaining them.  Assuming no critical bug appears, even after leaving the Magic TV in standby for more than 7 days, it should still have the complete and up-to-date EPG after wakeup.

O.K. thanks and good work Wklie that is a real improvement as normally you have to cycle through all the channel groups to repopulate the EPG data. The Magic just gets better and better hopefully the importers take notice.

i'm recording weekly episodes of dexter and nurse jackie on channel 11 - tens digital channel. info is displayed on already recorded episodes - date, time, channel and a short synopsis. i have always used the freeview epg and software - the epg shows same info.  hope this might help.

the "no episode" screen message i have seen , but only for series record when the show has ended - e.g. doc martin and downton abbey.

it's great to see software support still exists for the magic - i hope one day this Pvr becomes once more available.

ps. sorry for messy post. this site and my samsung android tablet are not  really compatible :(

Yeah, agreed, this is a great added feature. For my type of usage it was really the only thing missing. The Magic is now pretty much perfect for me.

I don't have access to a recent Network Ten broadcast stream to confirm this for you.  However, I do know that Network Ten works closely with Freeview for CRID implementation, right from the beginning.  If you find that all channels of Network Ten have missing CRID (in EIT or DSMCC?), I guess you either run into a PVR (Bush / Grundig ?) firmware bug, or a region-specific problem.
