If you're in Richmond,Cremorne, Abbotsford, Collingwood, Fitzroy  and have your reception coming from the UHF  Translator at the Como centre, you maybe having problems due to the rather large ugly building being built right next door to it and blocking your signal.  Also the two large cranes that are operating on the site.

There are whole streets in Richmond where reception has just totally disappeared in the last month.  I've done lots of jobs in the last few weeks where the como signal is totally or partially blocked and had to replace many antennas and amplifiers to get a digital signal from MT Dandenong rather than como which is these cases has been difficult and expensive.

I am in Northcote on the west side of Ruckers Hill, so use the South Yarra Como transmitter.  Over the past few weeks the reception for channel 10, 11, 1 has been non existent.  all other channels are ok, excepting occasional freezes with sbs.  Is  this only going to get worse or are there plans to upgrade the como transmitter?  Has anyone else lost 10, 11 and 1?

Beeblebrox sounds like he knows the area quite well.  You cannot modify the tower to compensate for cranes.  It an ideal world the developer would be reimbursing people for the inconvenience but that'll never happen. Thanks for the heads up.  I'll bet that channel 10 is getting sick of calls demanding a fix.

thanks for this information, I live in Richmnd and my reception dropped out a week ago, now I can only receive the channel 9 stations. I hope this isnt permanant and is because of cranes, not the new tower.
The worst part is being stuck with just 9, I'd almost prefer C31

Given the height of the new building you probably need to start looking at making some changes.  I've had no feedback yet as to what if anything the parties resposibile for the como site are doing about it.

We've done dozens of antennas back to Mt Dandenong in the last 2 months as there are whole streets where reception has gone out the window..

Its a pretty poor situation where someone can put up a building and wipe out services for large numbers of people without fear of penalty.

I am in a rented house without an aerial, so I use an indoor aerial. I have never gotten the slightest reception from dandenong. The reception from Como was 90%

Then you are obviously very lucky and not in one of the areas affected by this new building blocking your signal path to Como.

No sorry, my reception WAS 90% from Como and now I get nothing except for channel 9.
I cant get any signal from Dandenong with my indoor aerial.
So sad, I just want ABC news24

You may be OK with an external UHF antenna pointed at Como..... there's only one way to find out.

I checked digital signals from Como on 4th and 5th August in Bridge Rd and Cotter street and had no problems using an electronic antenna at ground level. All channels produced a BER of 1-oe7 with an Mer
from 38 to 34. Why was it so when the tests were done in designated black spots directly behind the new sky scrapper currently being built 300 meters on the north side of Como? jr2005.

Which end of Cotter St?  the mary st end you could probably see the transmitting antennas  You maybe getting reflected signals , signals off the edge of the building any number of possibilities. without looking at a spectrum it's kind of hard to know what you were getting.

Anything in about a 40 degree arc north has been seriously impacted.  Like all terrestrial reception it varies, some people will just have reduced field strength and impacted BER/MER whilst others will go over the cliff and others will have no signal at all.

In the last month I've done probably a dozen jobs in the blocks between lennox st and church st Richmond, more  further north in Richmond and Abbotsford, and Clifton Hill and Northcote.  Some have lost a few channels some lose all.  Most now have good digital from MT Dandenong.

Cotter St tests from Como were done at ground level behind a hedge on the footpath 100 meters west of Brighton St using a Prodig 5 spectrum analizer. Photos of location, multiplex and digital readings from the PD-5 are available. Send an e-mail to cleartv@hotkey.net.au for photos.    JR2005.

Channel 10, 11 & 1 had improved in Northcote for a while, but over the past two days there has been zero signal  in south west northcote.  Given the interest Ten exhibits, its a wonder they have got any advertising agencies buying their time.  It is also surprising that a techo from TEN is not on this forum saying something.  Does Ten have no corporate social responsibility at all?  Silly question I suppose.

yes  I've done a couple in abbotsford this week that have suffered the same fate.  Fortunately there we've gone back to MT Dandenong with a new antenna.
