My 60" Sony SXRD is still going strong, but bigger would be better. Could this be a worthy big screen SXRD replacement?
Only announced in Korea, but the size is right. Good pics here:

Samsung unveiled the D7000 and D8000 TV ranges at CES 2011 back in January 2011 but it seems that Samsung also has a successor for the current C9000 ready. At least in Korea where Samsung has unveiled the D9500 high-end model.
D9500 will be released in a 75-inch model initially, with a new extremely slim design with almost zero bezel around the panel. Samsung calls it the “Secret Design”. The large TV also features LED backlight, 240 Hz and a new Black Diamond Panel said to improve black reproduction and viewing angles.
Two of the main features of the D9500 range are Smart TV with internet access and a range of internet Apps and 3D based on the active 3D shutter technology. Samsung promises beautiful 3D pictures on the large 75-inch screen.
The Smart TV interface is expected to be the same as in the current 2011 models such as D7000 and D8000. This also means that you can control everything with your smartphone and that you can utilize features such as DLNA, a built-in web browser, Skype and Social TV.
Samsung says that the 75-inch 75D9500 will be available in Korea in a few months. Samsung has not confirmed if the TV will also be available outside of Korea, but the US is being considered.

Is it local dimming or only more like traditional CCFL backlighting replaced with LED? It's a very big screen real estate to have uniform backlighting...

What about this Sharp 85" model with 16x more detail than 1080p??

+70 inch screens have been few and far between over the last 3years, which is quite surprising since 55" LCDs have been quite affordable for a long time now, and plasmas still only offer 85" in commercial panels.

I recon I could get the 75" Sammy here even if its not officially offered. The Samsung only store in Burwood (Sydney) got a 70" Sammy even though it was never released here.

Even if it becomes possibly to get a big LCD in Oz I will not buy one, they are not a substitute for the 70" Sony SXRD rear pros IMHO.

I talked directly with Samsung on the release of the Smsung D9500 and they said that it is going to be released in the US, although still no CONFIRMED date has been set. They are still trying to get it released by Aug. or Sept. of this year, but only time will tell.

As much as I like some Apple stuff, I can't see them releasing a full blown TV. The TV market is a very tough business with many of the major players struggling to make a buck out of it. Now if Apple come along, they will want to charge a premium for a well entrenched product where design isn't going to be a hugely deciding factor....price will be. An typically, Apple isn't known for cheap. Good design using some quality components usually = $$$$$.

Maybe they'll release an ATV3 with tuners and Siri, but that diverts traffic away from their locked iTunes ecosystem...

I much prefer my 70" Sony over my 52" LCD for free to air or anything else because the Sony is not an LCD.
LCD is not good for low quality content and a 70" plus is likely to be a bloody disaster.
