any NTFS recovery tools you recommend???

Cheers.
Wish I could - it's a nightmare to find legitimate data recovery software.  Windows will have a go if you "check for errors" but it will usually just complete remove any inconsistancies (recommended in any case, although I would guess perhaps the disk itself may be suspect if it happened again).

Maybe http://www.diskinter.../ntfs-recovery/ but it'll cost money.  I bought it some years ago to recover a disk and it got back a fair bit of stuff off a failing hard drive, but it's not perfect.  Depending on how valuable your recordings are of course (may be available via...other means)

Off topic but amusing

A friend had a faulty WDTV live and returned it to Officeworks for warranty - was told that the price had dropped to $99 and since she paid $199 11 months ago was refunded $100 plus given a new WDTV as exchange.

I assume this isnt standard warranty procedure?

Also off topic.
I have two WD media players, the newer one is WDTV LIVE,and they are both playing up. sometimes they will not find the storage device and sometimes they will not play files that they  they have played previously, anyone had similar problems?
I am a bit reluctant to buy a new one.
Is anyone using a more reliable type of media player.
Cheers

Hi I am trying to stream a flash stream of the F1 to a old panasonic plasma in the bedroom with no HDMI from this site www.vipbox.tv/. I found the logitech revue and thought great problem solved but it only works throe a HDMI.
Can someone who understands this stuff tell me if a WDTV LIVE will stream the F1 to a plasma every couple of weeks. Ideally i would like it to record free to air TV like a PVR but will settle for anything cheap that will save me from having to watch the non telecast free practice sessions on my laptop. I don't want to run a lead right across the room either.
Any help would be very much appreciated and i dont want to spend big bucks as i will update the plasma sooner or later

cheers
Ton

Hi All,

I am really sorry if this has been covered already, but I am really quite new to this forum.

I have recently purchased a WD TV Live (the one with the built-in wireless). I also have an older model WD TV (without built-in wireless).

The problem I am having with the new WD TV Live is that I am getting a stuttering effect when I playback RIPs of Blu-Ray movies.

These play perfectly fine on the older WD TV.

All other movies (.ISO from DVD) play perfectly fine on both media players.

I am playing the movies (.ISO) directly from a USB attached hard drive.

The firmware on the new WD TV Live is v1.07.18. I can't seem to roll back any further (as I saw suggested elsewhere).

Has anybody else come across this issue? If so, have you been able to rectify it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Derek

Derek, This link should help you regarding rollback:

http://community.wdc...m-p/322593#M369

Check the 'official' WDTV Forum (above link) and leave your problem there.  Lots of bright clever people there who may be able to help you.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Thomfam,

Thanks very much for the information, I really appreciate it.

I have logged the problem on the WD Community forum - I am waiting for a reply.

I will post something back here when I get an answer.

Thanks again!

Regards,

Derek

Hi All,

I have been in contact with WD support regarding the stuttering effect on BluRay .ISO movies, and I have a reply.

After many emails back and forth, I have been told that the WDTV Live Streaming does not support the VC-1 codec, and this is the codec used for my BluRay .ISO movies.

This codec is supported in previous versions of the WDTV.

I have made it very clear to WD that this is not satisfactory, as I believe that a product like this should perform AT LEAST as well as a product that it supersedes.

WD Support tell me that they have passed my "suggestion" on to their development team.

I am not sure there will ever be a solution.

It's a shame because I mostly like this product.  ;-(

I'd check that.  While VC-1 is supported by the BD specs most HD titles are compressed using MPEG-4 AVC.

Hi DrP,

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps it is just AnyDVD that creates VC-1 codec from BluRay? This is what I use to create the .ISO images.

Derek

Unless you are recoding to a smaller files size anydvd (HD) leaves the video part alone when ripping.  It's a bit unusual to find many discs that use VC-1.
