Bought a 95 yesterday and having trouble getting it to update the firmware. Have tried usb, disc and wireless network and no go.

The firmware on my unit has AU in the main version number while what i have from Oppo does not.......is this the problem?

Yupp, there's three FW's, one for US, Europe and now Australia.

If you bought locally you'l need to use the AUS FW not the US or European FW.

Suggest you try the Australian Oppo website (International Dynamics) or the retailer you purchased from.

Also, if you post the FW details of what's currently installed people here might be able to tell if you that's current or not.

Just as a side note.  Those who are thinking of purchasing an AU 93 or 95 and have the intention of using ISO support available in the December firmware, will never happen because the AU version has only just been released and a december fimware would never have been released for it. Otherwise, get yourself and US/EU machine.

First up.... whats an ISO.... :turned: :P

Second from looking further into the firmware for my Aussie purchased unit it does indeed include ISO support in the current firmware version.
Current firmware BDP9xAU-61-1219 released 21st December 2011.

Latest firmware BDPxAU-65-0302 released 19 March 2012; this removes ISO support.

The linked website above does not give details on where to download latest firmware. Maybe not ideal to update due to loss of ISO support unless I have problems.

Edit and I really am a total nube re ISO........

Unless you plan on ripping blu ray discs to a hard drive then there is no need to worry about ISO support.

They're a great unit and for $649 the mod kit is basically being thrown in gratis.  Ken at Merlin is a good guy to deal with.  At that price I don't think it's worth importing the US version from Amazon and installing the mod kit yourself.

For picture quality, you're unlikely to notice much difference on blu-rays unless you're using a 55"+ display.  The upscaling of DVDs is much better than most players and you'll notice this on almost any display.  If you've already calibrated your display, it's likely to need tweaking, as the oppo is one of the few players that processes colour information correctly.

For CD, DVDA and SACD sound through the analog outputs (using the Oppo's DAC) will be a lot better than your Yamaha's internal processing.  The Oppo also lets you play DVDA without firing up a display (hit Stop twice, then Play).

Oppo's firmware support for new disc issues etc is excellent - no-one does it better.

At that price I presume it's the basic mod kit which involves pushing a number of buttons and restarting the player.  If you want to program a universal remote the pro kit makes it easier to set up (with a Harmony you can have two activities, one for playing local discs and one for playing US discs).  Your call whether you want to spend more $ on the pro mod kit - may be worth it for the spouse acceptance factor. :)

Thanks for the quick reply Quark, yeah I have a 63'' plasma also it is the basic mod kit I only have local titles at the moment but the mod comes with the player, yeah ken sounds great to deal with. So will all the information about what buttons to press for different regions come with the player? thanks for any information.

There'll be a sheet with the mod kit instructions - you can read here in the meantime.

Thanks again Quark, I really only need a 3d player with 2 HDMI outs for my set up but I think this unit is best in class for the money, so I think i will order it today, was going to go down the samsung bde 8900 route as it has 2 hdmi but really want the best picture possible and have read a few complaints on the samsung already and i dont need the 1tb storage. I think the oppo will be the right choice. cheers Chris.

Shame, it would have been nice to have some hacked firmware reinstating iso playback.

Oppo has a cult following and since the release of 93 and 95, even more so. With such huge interest, I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before someone comes up with a hacked firmware version..

Anyone has a link to the AU december firmware.

I understood the Oz player had March FW as it wasn't released until then?

For the US or EU FW see posts #1069 or #1025 in this thread.

That's what I said and thought but someone here posted they received their AU oppo and updated their firmware from Dec to current so it must exist. Maybe the first lost AU oppo's were shipped with the dec fimrware that will not be publically available or released by oppo and only recent firmware will be available for download.

Pitty you can't backup your firmware to an external storage device from the oppo.

I think he might have just bought his oppo here in aus from of the importers (merlin/gatti,etc) rather than the "au oppo" thats available now and thats caused the confusion.

I bought the 95 from Dennis White in Adelaide 2 weeks ago and it has December Australian version software, unit kept on coming up with firmware updates available online then when trying to update gives message "firmware not found" or something similiar.

Sent an email to Oppo and no reply which I found unusual; just fired 95 up and tried firmware download and its downloading it  .

I'm not worries about the ISO playback as i dont use it and would rather have the updated disc playback firmware.

I've had my 93 with pro mod for a while now and have experience trouble free viewing til recently. My collection is mainly US based so I can't remember the exact time I had to switch to Region B, though I'm sure it did work late last year. Maybe it still does work...

Anyway about a month ago I put in a UK version of 'The Lincoln Lawyer'which is locked to B. Couldn't get it to work due to region locking. I redid the firmware of the Oppo and the pro mod and still nothing... Tried last night and failed again, then put in a copy of Henry of Navarre which according to Blu-ray.comis also Region B Locked and it worked. :twitch:

I've googled Lincoln Lawyer blu-ray region issues and can't see anything.

Has anyone else had any other problems with the region lock issues not working like this?

I'm planning to do some more testing on other supposedly locked B movies tonight.

False alarm - I tried some known region A Locked movies and they worked, while at the same time as Henry of Navarre worked. Similarly other locked B titles did not work.

So the pro mod is not working...

What Oppo firmware release are you on?
What pro mod kit firmware are you on?
Which region B locked titles are not working?
Note, if a region locked title was rejected as wrong region before you updated the pro mod kit firmware, it will often continue to be rejected after the update until the Oppo's memory is reset.

I flushed the persistent storage and still not changing.

Any ideas?
