the JB one is in a steel case?
Anyone getting the $48 version from big w?
STEEL CASE ???

Even Target has an advert in today's paper :  Limited Edition Blu-ray with a FRAMED MOVIE CELL and BLUE PERSPEX BOX !!

Call me CYNCIAL :) (wont be the first time in here !!)  - but wasn't Cameron harping on about 'saving the planet' and how Avatar was a 'greenies wetdream' ?? So much for that with a steel case (did Australia provide the iron ore to China for that ?? LOL) - or the huge amount of 'plastic' in the perspex case ??

i guess because animation has everything in focus all the time its something i havent seen in 3D before.
In Avatar the 3D animation uses a lot of out of focus rendering of objects that are not at the "distance of interest" the director expects the audience to concentrate on.  However this is done skillfully and "naturally".  Unless you look for the out of focus effect, you may not notice it.

Do you honestly think Cameron has any control over what packaging Fox in any territory chose to use? I think you assume he has to much control over the process.

Where did you get your copy from?

Only way to get it is buy a Panasonic TV or wait until 2012 when their hold on the rights for this edition ends.

Quality is excellent, probably the best 3D i have seen yet, it looks every bit as detailed as it 2d counterpart.
Is it just the Theatrical version?

Quite an achievement to pack probably 1.5x as much data as the Theatrical 2D into the same 50GB disc:  I wonder if defocusing items not of interest, helps with the compressability.

Ohhh, they're milking the golden cow with this one, they really are.

Meanwhile, the new 3-disc "Collector's Edition" version does not play properly in Sony's S370 BD player; takes ten years to load (not normal for this player), and the Java menus do not work properly; you can't select from the three versions of the movie, for one thing.

Works fine on the PS3, but then, that's apparently what the 3.55 firmware update the other week was all about.

Fox's BD authoring is dreadful. Always has been. But it's getting worse.

I feel completely vindicated in my decision to acquire it elsewhere then.  Once it is available at retail, I will purchase it.
