I thought that since there are a growing number of owners of this new model out there now, we should start an owners tips thread

-this tv is damn heavy, you need two people to lift it up, one person wont do

-I found 'normal' setting good for a bright room in the daytime, but preferred 'cinema' at night

-we have a macmini connected as well, and I think that game picture mode works well (we have the mac connected via the amplifier and hdmi, not the pc connection, which would have given us a big range of picture tweaks. For the mac i had to go into 'other settings' and adjust overscan

Good idea Larry,

I will contribute once I get it delivered. I am tempted to wall mount it from day 1, busy researching the wall mount bracket websites.

Hey, I am so close to purchasing this in the 58''. Wondering if you could tell me if you have had any issues with this as yet. How is it in the bright room? We have a window to the left of the tv. Do you think this would be an issue? Also. do you have Foxtel set up through it? If so how does the picture look through the Foxtel. We only have the standard IQ box connected through AV cables. Do you have any other equipment hooked up to the tv? For example PVR? If so is this a good picture? How does the sport look through it?
Any info you could give me regarding this will be very much appreciated.

arun-have fun once it arrives..i am very happy with mine...

paul-we have two sets of window, each about 6m long and 2m high..no hassles with reflections, we do have halogen downlights above the tv, so i moved mine a bit forward, so the lights were behind it, and that fixed any issues...

we find sd and hdtv is good, however old usa tv shows are noticably fuzzy, dvds, games and bluray via ps3 is very good
also hd rips via wdtv are quite clear

i have a beyonwiz dp-p1 and it plays well with this tv, as with my previous 50" tv, however i find the tuner on the 65" is a lot quicker to 'lock on' than the tuner on the dp-p1...so i and using the tv tuner more, if i am in the mood to channel surf....

sport looks great !....

every night, the two pieces of tech my wife uses are-the ipad and the new tv....she is very happy with both....
the only hassle is sitting through lots of recordings of junior masterchef....

Hi Luke,
I will keenly follow your progress. In Whirlpool forum, I read that Panasonic Plasmas have some sort of a bump at the centre of the rear panel which can prevent it from mounting except if you buy a panasonic wall mount (>$500 - which is ridiculous). I am hoping that is not the case. If you have your Panasonic plasma with you can you check out the rear panel and see if there is a bump in the centre. I did notice in JB HiFi that the power socket/plug is right in the centre of the rear panel. Now I dont know how thick those power plugs are.

Anyone who has wall mounted P65S20A, please share your thoughts here.

Mount is awaiting pickup at the post office so the TV is going up tomorrow morning.  FYI I'm on Whirlpool as one4spl.

The mount looks like it should clear the plug as I can tell.

I used 10mm nuts as spacers (8mm thick) between the verticals and the TV itself so that the verticals clear the case of the tv by ~1mm. The widest part of the TV back is ~38mm away from the wall.

The power-point and cable fit in the gap fine. I had to use a 90deg HDMI adaptor and the antenna cable is folded sharply, but it all works.

All the hardware needed came with the bracket other than the following which i picked up from Bunnings-

* 10mm nuts as spacers
* 8mmx25mm bolts to go into the tv (the ones with the bracket are either too short or too long to work with the nuts-as-spacers, but would work with the 20mm spacers proviced)
* 90deg HDMI
* big washers for the wall and tv bolts to spread the load on the brackets more (but not really required)

The level built into the bracket is junk, use a real level.

Thanks Luke. Yup, I finally got my plasma mounted on Saturday 4th Dec. I used the given M8x40mm bolts to secure the arms at the back of the TV. Initially, I was sceptical as the instructions with plasma said, max. depth of bolts should be 30 mm. but when I screwed in the provided M8x40mm bolt in the TV without the bracket, it went inside in full, so used those instead. Yes the HDMI cable is pretty much locked in between the TV and the wall as the HDMI head is 35mm. long but it is working so no worries so far.

THe picture looks awesome. I have only tried the FTA TV channels and pay tv. I have yet to try watching a blue ray movie to test the effect of Full HD signal.

Did you use the ~25mm spacers that came with the bracket? In that case you only have <13mm of bolt in the TV so that's fine.

be careful that none of the connectors have constant pressure on them against the wall - solder is basically a thick liquid so it will eventually pull the connectors from the PCB if there is pressure on it.

I'm quite happy with the TV too, the blacks aren't inky (you can see the black bars glowing in letterbox content with all the lights off) and the flicker/grainyness is a bit much in "Normal" mode, but in True Cinema its nice and smooth and still very bright.

Works well using it as a monitor for my Win7 HTPC too - nice enough browsing the web etc.

I just need to rig up the IR blaster on my HTPC to turn the TV off if the PC goes to sleep - currently it just sits there with the input log on-screen

I'm seeing details I never even knew existed
Currently I'm using the Cinema mode at night, which looks pretty good to my eyes. However during the day, with the increased light I can't seem to find the sweet spot. Any suggestions.

Mounted mine on the wall last Sunday after staring at the enormous box for three days...

Bought the same wall bracket to that already mentioned here. Weird instructions, everything was in metric except the pilot hole stated 3/16" to a depth of 2.5" which I rounded up to 5mm. Was a bit worried when one of the bracket mounting bolts snapped under the strain as I wrenched it in to the stud. Had to reposition the bracket a bit lower and start again. I think that the light alloy bolts were overheating and expanding inside the pilot hole because of the heat inside the just drilled hole - the wall studs are from the 50's and are a real heavy, dense wood that requires a fair bit of drilling effort to get into. Anyway waited 5 minutes after drilling and no problems at the second attempt. Needed to get a neighbour to lift one side of this beast on to the bracket as the wife wasn't up to the task.  

Very happy with a first up showing of Aliens on Blu-ray. Last night tried How To Train Your Dragon with the kids and wow, was really impressed, and even more so when I walked up closer to the screen and saw more and more detail - like freckles, hair follicles on the animated characters.

So far all settings are as they came out of the box. Haven't had a chance to even open the user manual yet. I'm planning on getting the Spears & Munsil HD benchmark disc out in the coming days and do some tweaking. Will report back.

On the product description for the previously mentioned wall mount- it says it's lockable. Can anyone elaborate on how this is achieved and any extra hardware required to secure it.
I'd like to have the piece of mind that some muppett isn't just going to lift this off my entertainment unit one day while I'm at work ahaha.

Usually you can add a padlock to 'secure' it, but seriously burglars are usually opportunistic, and a 65" 50KG plasma screen is not what I would class as opportunistic.

Hi Luke, I did not use the spacers that came with it, even then the whole 40mm bolt went inside the TV, so plenty of support. My HDMI cable and antenna  are touching the wall, I am hoping that they dont have pressure. You see, the HDMI cables have 35 mm of firm head with the rest being flexible cable, and since the space between the TV and wall is not more than 35 mm, it is kind of tricky.

Yeah, there's a metal strip that slots in between the bottom rail and the verticals on the tv locking them together. I can get the strip in so that the tv wont swing out if shoved, but I cant get a padlock on the end of the strip to secure it as my hands are much bigger than 35mm.

Hi All

Just got the 65S20A and set it up yesterday. I've been playing with the picture settings and also looking around for some recommended settings. Most of what I've seen on AVS I can't tell what the equivalent US model is. Does anyone know? Are there are any other equivalent model settings that might work (smaller?)

So far, I'm using the Normal setting, but have upped the contrast to 90. On the default settings, which has contrast on 50, I didn't find the blacks very black. For example, on One HD, presenter was wearing a suit that went from grey to black moving from 50 to 90.

Foxtel is a bit crap, but that's the source, and with the bigger screen (previously 52inch LCD), I assume it's just making it more obvious.

Has anyone had any troubles with the cricket? Can't get it quite right, artifacts around the players.

Need to get the playing out of the way, so it can be enjoyed !

That's a problem with the digital broadcast of the cricket not your TV.

What height from the floor to the bottom of the Plasmas housing did you mount this unit?
And did any owners do any sort of break period, eg, no black bar usage?
