Last night, whiile watching a BD, my RX-A2000's On Screen Display decided not to work anymore. While I'm happy it 'resolve' the annoying black bar volume display but I realised that I can't activate the other OSD features as well by pressing the 'On Screen' button on remote. After having several attempts (and a few beers) pressing some buttons, I decided to give up as it was getting late as well. Apart from that, my A2000 works fine.

I will attempt again tonight (as I'm at work now). When I last watch a BD couple of days ago, the OSD was working fine and I don't recall unnecessary fiddling with my Yamaha remote. Any solution from owners of the Aventage series or have you encounter similar issues?

Problem solved. After unsuccessfully trying to rectify the issue via remote and panel, decided to turn off and on at the mains, and OSD decided to work again!

Owned the RX 3010 since last year. I purchased 2 pairs of bookshelf speakers to have an attempt at the presence feature of the avr which is activated by using any of the myriad of onboard DSP programmes.

OK with much intrepidation I finally got the front presence speakers setup and connected. As I am using the 3010 as a pre pro I chose 7ch +2 +2 in the setup menu.
This setting activated the presence pre outs and set this prior to doing YPAO calibration.
Was this a waste of effort?
Verdict. Well I must be honest. It took me about a good 5 hours to finish the job ie connect brackets to the masonary wall run the cable so it is not visible and connect everything up and this included cleaning up and putting all tools away plus multipoint and angle recalibrating.
After the excercise I waited till the evening to try it out. I put on Terminator Salvation -(Christian Bale version not TV series) BR. First thing that was obvious was that during the intro music score the soundstage was so much more engrossing. It was like I had music expanding accross and beyond the 6metre width of the room.
It was when the action scenes fired up that I sat there in awe listening to helicopter gunships and the skynet flying weaponery  assaulting my aural senses into submission. There was just so much more presence (apologies for the pun) in the sound track you actually followed the sound in tandem with the what was happening on the screen and the sounds were coming way above from what you are used two with just Land R speakers. The most impressive is when a jet fighter swooped froom the left to the right of the screen in a semicircle fashion.
The sound melded together perfectly. All four front speakers in synchrony fired up sequencialy to created the sound effect that had me smiling from ear to ear.
Finally tried some multichannel music. Roy Orbinson's DTSMA 96khz BR of Black and White Night. I have never heard this sound this good before. I read reviews where the person reviewing refers to a music video as "Like being there" well what I heard was exactly that.
So by now you have gathered I am pretty impressed.
Next is to mount the rear presence and see how that goes. THe front presence definitely makes a difference.

PS I use an Elektra Theatron plus a Yamaha AS2000 stereo amp(fronts) for my amplification. This combo works extremely well for me.

Can I, as a novice who recently splurged on this machine (second hand), ask some dumb questions please about my RXA 3000.
I have it set up with 5.1 speakers, I have used the YPAO, I have a number of media players connected to it all working fine, I have the Ipod dock spinning tunes, I have it attached to my network. I simply want to get as much out of it as I can and I am sure there is plenty I am missing.

Me buying this was probably the equivalent of a homeless person buying an IPad.

I probably don't undertand amps in general, so where would the best place to get an online tutorial from. I sort of think I have a good idea sometimes and then I read some stuff and realise I know Jack.......

I hear talk about attaching a power amp to the 3000 for some reason or another. what is that about. why would someone do that.

how are the separate zones meant to work. I will want to put a pair of speakers on my patio, is that a zone.

I have an 20 year old denon stereo amp now in the top of the cupboard that still works well although the speakers are being used by the 3000 now as rear speakers. Do I still use this somehow or chuck it away. I did nothing with this other than play CDs

I think I will get presence speakers at some point as I hear they take the movie experience to another level.

I picked up an RX-A3010 at xmas time with a pair of Krix Neuphonix fronts, an Epicentrix centre and a couple of Atmospherix ceiling ones for the rears. Since my ceilings are 3 mt high and all the outputs that this thing has l have been thinking l should use the Atmospherix for front presence and get some good in wall speakers to go in the wall at head heght behind the couch which is where the rear are at the moment on stands and sound great at that level. My main concern is that would 3 mt be to high for the front presence units or will the auto setup account for the distance and angles and make it sound ok? It is a large room 8.5mt x 5.2 mt. Thoughts please before l go cutting dirty great holes in the roof.
