The firmware upgrade will only add a function of screen position adjustment under RGB and DVI connection. It is developed to solve the compatibility issue with some TVs.
If you did not have screen positioning problems with your STB and current TV then your existing box dose not needs to be upgraded at all.

Sccubas, thank you for the information. I am using a Benq 6200 XGA DLP projector via component with the LG 4100P. Since updating to firmware 1.00.05 I have not had problems with centering of the image on the screen for 1080i, 576i or 576P output.

When using 720P output the image is displayed with black bars either side of a "squeezed" image. How can I get a correct 16:9 image with 720P?

Also, using the VGA connection, none of the settings seem to display correctly. None of the settings result in an image that uses the full 576x1024 portion of the display, with the 6200 set to 16:9. The projector seems to identify VGA inputs incorrectly, e.g. 576p is recognised as 480p. Does the LG 4100P output 480P via VGA?

I would also like to know, how can you adjust manually the screen positioning on the STB with firmware 1.00.05?

I would like to say that the people at Humax Australia have been very helpful, and it is appreciated that you have asked for input from this forum to improve your product.

As the first STB to offer DVI in Australia many people have chosen the LG to use with other brands of TV, Monitor and Projector.

I contacted Humax regarding the update and within 15 minutes they'd emailed me the software and instructions; that's very impressive!

I only wish the JVC importer, Hagemeyer, payed similar attention when I had a problem with one of their products.

Never JVC again!

You can check your software version and screen positioning function as follows.

1. Check the software information
Press help button on your RCU during 3 seconds.
Then you'll see the OSD information on your TV now.

2. Screen Positioning Function (When connected to DVI/RGB)
Press the RED, GREEN, YELLOW, BLUE and OK button in order.
The position control will appear.
Use the ▲/▼/◀/▶ buttons to adjust the position on the screen.
You can move the screen in vertical or horizontal direction as much as the digit next to Up/Down/Left/Right.
Press Exit button to exit the Position control screen.

Thanks.

Where does LG stand (re: warranty issues) on this Humax firmware update? Will the warranty remain intact? or is it voided by applying a firmware update, which is not made available via LG?

I called the LG helpline who transferred me to a very helpful individual who emailed the software to me.

The email was from Humax and I've no doubt that LG will stand by the warranty.

Unlike some suppliers, these guys seem admirably determined to get their product right and to do the right thing for buyers. What a pleasure!

Thanks Scuba
I find my box is H/W Rev 1.0 & S/W LST 1.00.02 dated 18 May 2004. If I understand you correctly , according to your guide , I need to go back & get another box.
How can I do this?? Will LG arrange a swap?
I have the dotted green line problem in black areas of images, no centreing using component & cannot view 720P signal at all using DVI ( except if I switch screen to STB-PC mode & then its a zoomed , cropped , off centre , mess ) .
My screen does NOT have H-V position adjustment on DVI.

What exactly is the problem Groover alias avsv63? I know when i press that button on the remote it comes up with a message to say it doesn't work which is strange, but why would you ever want to change the aspect ratio "on the fly" anyway?

Anyone else noticed that when you un-mute the stb, the display continues to say "Muted"? I know... no big deal - but it bugs me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Dear REZ O'LUTION

You wrote....

This, you can fixed the bugs with new software.
Therefore you don't need exchange with a new box.

Also I recommanded would rather DVI/RGB than YPbPr to view.

The screening positioning is only available with a new software.
(LST 1.00.05 or higher version)

Ask to techinfoau@humaxdigital.com.

ps.
I recieved a new mail from imicallef@chubb.com.
Is this your mail address?

Hi,

I have a sample screen shot of 16:9 from CH7 but I can't uploading it.
If I can, it will be very helpful to understand. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I think you guys might talk this problem as you are seeing this screen shot.
(can't upload)

This screen shot information is SD and 16:9 source.
(can't upload)

Actually the picture you had seen is originally 4:3 source and that is converted to 16:9 from broadcasting company. (You will see the two side black bars in left and right sides on I attached screen shot)
(can't upload)

As you can see on the right bottom side, you will find a logo image of the broadcasting company. (7 Digital)
(can't upload)

This mean, the black bars on the sides are part of 16:9 signal from the broadcasting company and the bar itself is parts of the video signal thus the image is converted to 16:9.
(can't upload)

The aspect ratio conversion is only a possible when the display formats of the material is 4:3(16:9) and TV/Monitor aspect ratio fitted with 4:3(16:9) then the aspect ratio can’t be changed for the current program.
(can't upload)

As I mentioned, the attached screen shot have 16:9 information (but moving picture is 4:3) and TV aspect ratio is set to 16:9 so the aspect ratio can’t be adjusted as they are perfectly matched to each other.
(can't upload)

The aspect ratio controls the current TV type to show the original video format from the broadcasters when there is a mismatch between video input source and TV output type.
(can't upload)

In this case, if you set the TV type to 4:3 and the aspect ratio to ZOOM, then the moving picture will be showing expanded horizontally or stretched.
(can't upload)

So, the only solution you can change the aspect ratio is the display formats of the material is 4:3 and TV/Monitor aspect ratio fitted with 16:9 or vice versa then the aspect ratio can be changed perfectly for the current program.
