During the world cup games (and maybe other times, I don't watch much SBS) the coverage is nice and clear on SBS and SBS HD but when the ads come on the sound becomes very distorted, crackling and beeping, and the image seems to be of a lower quality, which I mean isn't that bad for watching the game but it is very annoying to have to listen through beeps through the ads. Is anyone else experiencing these problems? I take it it is not on my side where the problem is, because it is only the ads with the quality issues. So, can someone confirm this. No problems on any other stations, I am on the Mount Wellington tower (presumably, as I live quite close to mount wellington) and the signal strength is full. Never had prblems until the first world cup game yesterday (I think, once again I don't watch much SBS)

Thanks, Shredded

I noticed that last night watching JFK's women - at the end of which my PVR (which is the only way I can watch digital) died, so I can't check tonight.

My signal comes from Mt Barrow btw.

The noise was on SBS tonight while watching Monster Moves most during the ads but caught a couple more while the show was on . Bit hard on the ears.

I have plugged my digital analyser in and heard the tones with the last group of ads.

I've sent an email to SBS technical, but wouldn't necessarily expect a response till after the long weekend.

I too have noticed this and am quite annoyed with it. I know sometimes technical issues arise from time to time and I'm understanding of that but it's pretty terrible at the moment. Especially considering something as big as the FIFA World Cup is on.

I've also noticed that there is no Dolby Digital sound on SBS HD. It's not really that much of a problem, I just would have expected it to be of a higher quality.

Hi Shredded

Thanks for letting us know about this potential fault. We will take a look at it this afternoon to determine if its in our play out facility or along the transmission path and take remedial action from there.

It seemed to be working fine last night during the world cup. But didn't end up watching much because I fell asleep (:P) so can't be sure it's entirely better. Even with that problem SBS does better broadcasts than the major commercial stations. God the winter olympic coverage was bad on NINE, hardly anything was live, thank god there was pay tv. Thanks for the reply
