Why can't Sony or Pana produce an entry level player with these specs?

I seen these in Hoppers Crossing JB on the weekend. Unit looks great and has a good feel to them. Not a light and cheapey build etc. They look and feel like re-badged Sony decks. I'm tipping they're not though. Anyone know if these bad boys are region selectable or not? Who here has taken the plunge?

"can bitstream hd audio codecs such as dolby true hd, dts hd ma, so excellent for those with receviers that can decode such as the onkyo 605, the player can be made region free for dvd and bluray by entering a code on the remote
turn on
open tray
enter 97350 on remote
followed by region code you need such as 1 (for region 1 dvd and region a bluray)
hit ok
close tray with disc in drive
and it worked, played region 1 dvds and region a blu ray discs, the process has to be redone each time you power on/off (ie. doesnt remember the setting)"
Sounds very similar to procedure for the Kogan (except their code is 9113 and a menu pops up )

Yeah it does. And it's advertised as such, so they can't wipe it out via firmware.
Wolfman, those codes are for the old Soniq model. No guarantee they will work on the newer one.

The Soniq interface is almost identical to the one offered on the DGTEC BD player and the Clive Peteer's "Allure" BD500 player, which, in turn, is much like the Momitsu BDP-899
http://www.momitsu.com/bdp_899.html
...and the Sherwood BDP-5004 (...which isn't available here, yet, I believe...)
If you do an image search online for these players you will see how even their cases are physically very similar.
As to the quality... I owned an Allure for all of two weeks. DVDs upscaled beautifully and when bluray disks played, the PQ was excellent...as good as any player I've seen on an HD screen. The problem was that the thing wouldn't play Avatar (firmware update required) and many other disks. I updated the firmware...made no difference. I suspect I bought a dud. Returned!
Short of cash, but with a "hole" in my AV rack and the misses grimacing about it, I went and bought the Soniq at JB(For $125, bargained-down from $149!!! If I'd waited a couple of days the bloody thing would have been on sale at $96...just my luck! ). Same PQ as the Allure...colour a bit richer. Plays all disks (touch wood), including Avatar just fine.
A mate has the first of the DGTEC units. To me, it looks almost identical to the ALLURE (-not surprising, seeing that DGTEC are the Allure importers for Clive Peteers...). PQ is just fine and it, touch wood, plays everything.
The JB special on the Soniq is hard to pass up. The case build quality is excellent. Piano-black gloss...good button design. The remote is a bit tacky, though. Oh, it does the job but it's not as swish as the Allure remote, which has larger buttons, gloss finish and an "enter" button which lights up whenever any function key is pushed.
