Hi guys thought I might start an owners thread for this PJ, don't know that there's a lot of 6000 owners on the forums but we can possibly use this to reference settings, etc as we go.....

I had a few minutes yesterday to check the W6000 out (Thanks Jason ;)) and was really impressed.  I've always liked the image from DLP but couldn't put up with the rainbows but I can barely make them out with the W6000. It's probably the first DLP unit I could seriously consider owning.  I hope to spend a little more time checking it out to see what its like over a longer period but if its as easy to watch for 3 hours as it is for 15 minutes then I'm going to be struggling to find a reason not to buy this as the next upgrade.

I don't actually own one, but have had a play so just my $0.02 worth.

I hardly see any RBE (I actually have to look for it) on my W5000, yet I see heaps on the W6000 I have access to.  I am wondering just how much comes down to calibration (where I cal mine every 100 hours) and the W6000 I was looking at was pretty much out of the box?

Does over driving a setting on a DLP (and factory presets would certainly be doing this) increase RBE?

I must say that whilst I am not 100% sure about the 'joystick' for lens shift, I am impressed with what I have seen from the 6000 so far.  I did notice however that the very slight non-uniform focus is still an issue with this projector.  I was really hoping BenQ would have solved that issue by now.

Interesting observations Mark.  I actually found the opposite, the W5000 made my eyes go loopy almost instantly whereas the W6000 I had to really try and find the rainbows.  I'm still not 100% certain the I would be comfortable with it long term but for the short period I was looking at it I really found it excellent to watch.  Jason mentioned a professional calibration was going to be done on the one instore soon so I'd love to see how it looks after that.

Its going to be pretty hard work deciding between this and the TW4500 or HC7000.

Well I've had it a few days now and been playing a bit so a couple of initial thoughts......

Out of the box: It's pretty ordinary compared to the 5000, that said it doesn't take much to get it looking very good (thanks again Jason)

Couple of dislikes next: Don't like the lens shift wheel, it will take some getting use to but I've got it where it needs to be for now, now this one really p1ssed me off, no bloody manual, you get a CD and a quick start manual but the full instruction manual is on the CD which will I'm sure will suit some but I'd like to beat the crap out of the bean counter who came up with that idea (fortunately my GLW's work has a new laser printer that needs testing so will have hard copy tonight).......

Like: Once you get it set this is clearly an improvement on the 5000 and I really liked the 5000, haven't watched a lot yet and will update as I do but definitely better blacks (and they were great again on the 5000) and more vibrancy in the picture for mine....

I will be pairing this with the Marantz UD9004 when it arrives so it will be interesting to see how it comes up as against the Sony 5000ES which is a superb BR player.....

considering this can be had for sub 4k I would clearly suggest to anyone to give it serious consideration, other than a couple of gripes mentioned above BenQ have produced another great DLP and I look even more forward to having it calibrated once I get some hours up on it......

Hi Yorac,
I was just about to ask for some feed back on the W6000 as I am considering getting one but you beat me to it .

Thanks

Probably also because most of my viewing experience with the 6000 has been test patterns and not too much a actual video.

Still tweaking this but picture is definitely much better after a bit of playing and extremely happy with the purchase, now have it paired with the Marantz UD9004 and both compliment the other, some pics here

I am really considering this projector and wanted to know if the noise from the wheel and the fan is annoying?
Does anyone have one of these projectors and do you notice the noise?

I have one and don't notice the fan except at start up however I'm fairly close to the PJ (stand mounted), where would you be locating it, roof mounted, shelf?.....

It would be ceiling mounted, I am tossing up between the W6000 and the 8500UB.
The only thing that concerns me is that I have read a few reports about the W6000 being a bit noisy.

I would highly doubt you would hear it roof mounted mate, I can say that it is slightly noisier than the W5000 I used to own but run in eco mode I don't notice it from 3 feet when I have a movie on, what height is your ceiling?..........

About 3 weeks and I'm only projecting on to a standard painted wall at the moment and PQ is brilliant, I only watch blu ray movies so PQ is always going to be very good but a few DTV members have said the same about picture and even said why bother buying a screen (currently renting so no hurry), at 9ft (2700) height I cannot imagine you would hear it at all, if you're in Melbourne SE would be happy to demo for you.......

Thanks for the offer but I am in Sydney, with no plans to travel to Melbourne for a while :)
Is the frame rate for the projector 60hz?
Also did you take out an extended warranty for this, considering BenQ only offer 1 year?

no extended warranty as I know people who will repair if needed, if getting an ext warranty barter just as hard as the PJ price because they make a lot of money on these, would imagine you could pick one up wit a good ext warranty at 3.8k or lower mate..........

Purchased W6K last week from Jason V's  store Thankyou. Unit has latest firmware which I think was to smooth the iris action?? Anyway I have it sitting on coffee table next to chair running via PS3 and cheap $200, 120" screen.  Apologies in advance for the novice comments but observations so far: Never having seen a dynamic iris in action I went looking for its action. Having it so close I can hear it operating but have been only able to see its effect once in one scene in 24hrs of operation. I shall now stop looking for it and enjoy the movies!!

Fan noise: is noticable from 2 feet away, still silent compared to my old X1. Not an issue if mounted a reasonble distance from person I hope, but we will see. Any sound from movie and fan noise is not noticable. Will be shelf mounting level with top of sceen.

Rainbows: saw them once a year with my X1 haven't seen them with this unit yet, niether have the 6 people that have seen it in action so far.

Blue ray PQ quite stunning, bright, sharp, I find the colour in cinema mode with the lamp in eco very good. Shadow detail however I find not as good as I thought it might be, perhaps with some adjustments can improve on this.

Blacks: blacks look very good.

DVD: looks very good with good discs (LOTR etc). Looks quite poor with burnt/compressed/poor quality discs, my X1 looked better here, a little disapointing, but was perhaps hoping for miracles.

Ambient light: Here this machine great, with three downlights (20% of my lights) on picture was affected slightly turned lamp to normal and picture quality improved dramatically, not as good as total darkness but much better very watchable. most projectors I have seen were destroyed with this amount of light

Motion is very good. Panning and fast motion is no problem with this machine no CFI needed here in my opinion anyway, this was always one of my issues with LCD.

Warranty: here in Aus the warranty is 2 years.

I think with a decent screen (I may call you soon Richard) and perhaps a rather excellent BD player and some tweaks this machine can only be much better again.
Extremely happy so far. Can't wait for Avatar.

Want to thank everyone here for taking their time to post info/comments/opinions on all these wonderful machines

Guys,
Would anyone like to share their settings for this unit and also at what hours they are applying these settings? I assume 100+hrs? I have the settings from Art Frierman's Projector Reviews but have not applied them yet and would be curious to see if any others have more suggestions.
Also, I am trying to get the 12v trigger working on this unit. It appears BenQ are using a DC power connector for the trigger plug... great... another unique way! Anyway, not even BenQ have a plug/adaptor to suit my Grandviews 3.5mm mono male plug... which happens to be the industry norm! Why can't they just comply?... and if they don't at leaset be able to give a solution.... AAArghh!!!
Any ideas people?

Hi there

I am new to this type of stuff.

I am looking to get the w6000; I noticed Digitalcentre have them for $3,249. Is this reasonable or can I get better elsewhere?

I have also looked at the Infocus In83 in comparison. Apart from price difference is there any major differences?

Thanks in advance.
