Hi all,

I bought one of these for my sister and have tested it on my DTV before going down to Wollongong to set it up on her CRT TV.

In the manual, page 4, Basic Operation:

Program Settings
To access the menu, press the MENU button and select [Program].

I have pressed MENU and the Program page is automatically up.

on page 6

(6) Picture Setting

To access the menu, press the MENU button and select [Picture].

I press MENU but cannot move from the Program page, I've tried every button.

How do I select [Picture] or any of the other pages?

One thing I've noticed is the volume of this contraption is rather low when used with my DTV and I have to boost my volume up to twice the levels.

I'm not sure how the volume will be on the CRT.

Not to worry I figured it out.

You have to hit menu again to de-select the page options then left or right button to flick through the pages.

Hello

PLEASE HELP

Just bought the DG-HD5370 and after three hours finally got a picture. Sepia and fuzzy and loses signal every second. I have a Magnavox flatscreen tv. I tried connecting through the vcr, didn't work. Don't have HDMI cable. Worried that even if I return and get another one, the same problem will occur. What is it do you think? Im not too savvy with this sort of stuff. Thanks

Give them a call or send them an email they are helpful.

I returned mine for a refund. I thought the volume was low and not crisp enough.

I now have a Strong 5405E - good volume and pic however the HD volume is less than SD volume.

HD is louder than SD on my DTV and HD was louder than SD on the DodgyTEC.

I've emailed Strong about it.

Hi Stephen

I was put on hold for a while. I exchanged it and this time it works well, all except I can't get colour. Also the guy at DS told me that if I have DVI on my television remote, that I shouldn't need a set top box. I do have that button but don't know how to activate it. Anyway, it wouldnt have been HD so the set top box is good now but like I said, can't get colour. Any suggestions? Thanks

Well it's not working well if you can't get colour, so all reception is in black and white?

Did the last STB transmit in colour?

Check your TV settings just in case and try it on another TV if you can.

Give them another call too, you may have to exchange that one too.

I wasn't happy with the volume, how are you finding it compared to normal TV volume?

I exchanged my Strong as HD volume was softer than SD volume, I have yet to check the new one.

After reading all the complaints from so many brands of STB on this forum you wonder why there isn't a standard that they all have to conform to - every TV you buy seems to be able to pick up channels well enough right?

The difference in sound volume is that the HD channels are AC3 audio which is lower in volume that the standard stereo on the SD channels.

The colour issue... seems there is a lack of colour signal. How is the STB connected to the TV (i.e. what type of cable, which plugs do you have it connected to), and what type of screen do you have?

I brought one of these boxes for spare room, thinking that it would play AVI'S via usb and it doesn't out of the box!

I thought it looks alot like the Bush Dfta42fv found some firmware for this and update my Dgtec so it can play AVI via USB!

Firmware Update!

Thanks Slippery slop for link!

So give it a go, copy file to USB stick, go to USB under menu, select photos select firmware and your away!

Give it a go, it worked for me perfect and for $80 HD settop box with full AVI via usb is good!

Played 720p MKV and Avi and worked perfect!

P.S Warning, please proceed at own risk!

Can anyone else confirm that updating a DGTEC DG-HD5370 with the firmware posted above for a DFTA42FV actually works?
You said they look the same, but from a quick google search they don't.

Has anyone else tried this? Don't want to brick my set top box.

UPDATE!

Firmware works fine if you want to play AVI via USB!
But there are side affect for the change of fimware from Dgtec to Bush!

1: Menu is now Bush
2: Front panel doesn't show channel numbers anymore! (No biggy don't need it any way)
3: Channel buttons on the front don't work, can only change channels with remote!

All else works great, so if you want to play AVI's via USB and don't care about the above then give it a go!

Ok, Updated using the file linked above.

Everything seems okay other than what mchuelio said about the channel buttons and display not working.

One thing to note: you have to look in music to find the firmware file.

Thanks mchuelio!

;) As mchuelio said above. All those features have changed after the "Bush" firmware upgrade and I also miss the channel broadcast resolution feature. I always like to know that detail. But hey for $79.95 from DSE I was really surprised with  the quality of the signal and picture on my (spare) 4:3 NEC TV. It plays 720p MKV files also!

I'm quite stoked so I will be buying another unit also. Can't go wrong at that price.

p.s. I've shot off an email to DGTEC to see if they supply an Upgrade or Original firmware for the DG-HD5370 just in case I need to roll back the changes.

Dear Customer,

Unfortunately there is no software update that will enable this option, and there is no plans for a software to be created to add that feature in.

Hi guys,
Did anyone try to go back to the original firmware?
Do you know if it is possible to do? Do you think restoring factory defaults may work?
I am thinking about trying this firmware to play avi movies, but i am still worry about the mentioned side effects. what is your advice? Does it really worth the changes?

Hey Guys.

HD5370 is very good and modable with this firmware I have.

it all working with PVR function and AVI, MKV, VOB, MP4 or
TS  playback.
I have also recorded off it and works fine when played back on computer. Also unlike the firmware mod above  here everything
works on the front panel like channel numbers, remote will function normal, The key with STB is to open them up and check the model of the board they use and check for alternative brand names that use this board.
You will find some have totally different software.

It has allot in common with Xoro HRT 7500. so this is the firmware to install if you want pvr function on your STB
even know we don't have have a record button on our remotes we can use the EPG scheduler.

Also note if you are getting only a faint sound out sound out of the av leads, I think this is two capacitors near the RCA plugs, so I ordered new ones to replace them.
my HDMI output works good.

Thanks to Amraks was able to convert my $4 DG-HD5370 bought from a recycling station at the local dump to the HRT7500.
I was able to confirm my PCB had the same series number before going ahead with the Firmware upgrade. DH2636-ZC01-01. As to the bricking possibility,I didn't have much to lose.

Firmware upgrade took about 60 sec total following the firmware enclosed instructions in English. After a restart the default startup process meant resetting the parameters for operation to English and a rescan of services.
Interestingly the display upon channel change shows the quality of the signal received. Did originally have some pixellation on SC10 and ONE on the DGTECH firmware, but none with the new one.
Using HDMI to display the video and have tried the USB port as a recording destination for the PVR function which is added now.
Didn't have a remote but found the Logitech db had all the necessary keys for the configuration and operation of the box as an HRT-7500. With a single tuner you are limited to viewing the service you are recording. The downloadable Manual had a very clear English guide as well as the prime language of the Guide (German) and other languages as well. Have since deleted all other languages and have an English only pdf to refer to. However I found the menus quite clear and really easy to follow once I got used to use of the Exit key to save changes.
The screen display says Yellow and Blue for page changes in the EPG display, and GELB and BLAU for the next 7-day page and previous 7-day page. I found that RED gave the next and GREEN the previous 7 days.
Also tried a USB stick to record to and a self powered USB HDD formatted in 2 partitions, one FAT32 the other NTFS.

A folder was created on the HDD by the firmware [PVRRECORD]. This needed a PVR setup first in the Menu option.
A press of the record button resulted in a TS file with the following sub folder on the HDD:
I:\PVRRECORD\20121028-164851-PRIME7 Wollongong-Better Homes And Gardens-(00H-01M).pvr

a recording set via the EPG gave the following sub folder:
I:\PVRRECORD\20121028-175111-ABC1-Wild Russia-(00H-08M).pvr. The program I chose to record was "Miniscule" and followed 'Wild Russia' on ABC 1. So I suspect that the folder is named via the Program name sent by the ABC when the PVR function began to record. In the above two folders are two files one labelled data0001, the other info.

Playback was smooth and clear using KMPlayer or WM Player.

Must say I am impressed with my bargain. :pirate:

Once again many thanks to you Amraks for your discovery. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Now a further follow up with real surprise. Bought a Grundig GSTB3106R for $10 the other day at a Salvos sale. BNIB. Looked at the GUI and it looked exactly like the Xoro firmware mentioned above.
Then I noticed the remote looked remarkably like the remote for the XORO HRT7500. I had loaded the XORO firmware onto the 5370 and changed it from a STB to a PVR with USB recording. Checked out the remote from the guide on the Xoro site.
Lo and behold the Grundig remote operates the modded STB perfectly.
Cheers
;-)
