In todays Courier Mail (Brisbane) I saw a Myer ad, New PS3, Controller and 007 Quantaum of Solace for $499.  It says valued at $109.95, I might go get one. The ad said available from Thursday.

After having a second read I think it's only one controller, at first I thought it was an extra controller, assuming one comes standard with the PS3.

yup, the PS3 standard package is console and 1 controller. The game is priced at $109.95 RRP (when it first came out) but trust me, it's probably worth half of that and it's not a good game (depends on ur genre and type of gaming). gonna check wif my mate in Myer and see if he can change it to something i want.

Thanks for the tip, might not be such a great deal then. I'm surprised there haven't been more good deals coming up to the realise. Sounds HN still has the best deal atm?

well, HN will depend on the which shop ... been even told it's a "MYSTERY GAME"! note the bold letters... that was how it was described to me! almost wanted to laugh!

at the end of the day, it's just gonna depend on whether u want to know what u r getting or rather be surprised. I suspect that the deals will probably b available still after the release and by that time, all will b clear on who's offering what!

seeing that Myer is offering the game worth "$109.95", i might try to get them to swap it for a second controller instead ($99) ...  ;)

Maybe the JB's deal is the way to go? Assasins Creed and a HDMI cable. No idea what that game is worth or if it is any good. The cable looked like a cheapie in the photo. Doesn't look like a genuine Sony.

Decisions decisions

Assuming the PS3 version is the same as the 360 version, I have been playing it for the past week or so (an old purchase I never got around to starting).  A few comments on it.  Visually it is spectacular, if you have a big TV, or pj, you'll be amazed.  The controls and movement are very impressive to begin with (jumping/climbing buildings is so fluid).  After a while though, the game starts falling apart.  Basically you have a home city, then missions to do in three other cities, which are broken up into three sectors each.  Each level (of sorts), requires you to travel to the corresponding city and perform a series of missions (pick-pocketing, finding high-points, ssaving citizens, interrogations, assassinations and flag collecting).  The problem is that each time you you have to go to a city, you basically doing exactly the same thing, every time.  Sure the difficulty increasies marginally, but once you learn the block/counter-attack move, you could take on an entire army and not die.  I hve just reacheed the last sector, of the final city, for the final "big assassination", and sure enough, I have to go climb some buildings, go assinate a few people and go save some citizens.

So basically you have to repeat your actions throughout the entire game just to get to the next cut scene.  I really hope they throw some variety at #2, or I won't be bothering picking it up.

It is a fun game, but you'll need some will-power to finish it.

Picked up a PS3 Slim and Batman from DSE in Prahran this morning. This is my second PS3 and I was going to buy Batman anyway, so effectively the PS3 Slim's cost me $400 :)

But would you have spent $99 on just the Batman game, or would you have got it cheaper elsewhere???

Hmmmm, I starting to think it may not be worth rushing out to get one today. These deals don't seem that great really. Might go over to HN and see what game they are offering.

Cheapest I've seen it for is $99 - RRP is $120, so I figured it was a good deal.

I just bought mine from HN Garden City, Brisbane.

I got it for $498 with a free game, they had 24 games to select from! I picked Resistance 2 (Has $109.95 price sticker). Plus I asked if they would match JB's deal witha free HDMI cable, he did. So got the Pulse HDMI cable as well. Has a sticker price of $59.95.

Not a bad deal I think. The guy said the HDMI cable I got is far better then the one JB's were offereing. He said this after I agreed to buy it so I don't think it was a sales line. I thought the one in the JB ad looked like an el'cheapo. (I am sure this may start an entire debate that all HDMI cables are the same and none are better then another, but I don't believe it).

He also offered me the 2 year extended warranty, I usually don't bother with these but he offered it at $49 instead of $79 so I took it.

Yeah, I thought the choice of a wide range of games was a smart move. There were some good titles there, not that I know much about whats good really. I remember seeing;

Colin McRae Dirt
Need for Speed - not sure which exact one
Sega Rally
ABBA Singstar
Some ACDC Game

Jeez, must be getting old if I can only remember 6 outta 24! They were mostly the $50 type budget titles.

Free game is strictly Assassins Creed and nothing else. Sales person at JB was not very friendly and not willing to even discuss the possibility of a different game. HDMI cable is apparently a cheapie brand.

I'll be grabbing a Slim tomorrow from JB, is it worth shelling out the $79 for the extra 2 years warranty? A friend of mine says he's had his PS3 die a couple times on him, moreso than the 360. But these new ones that run cooler, quieter, etc should be more reliable, shouldn't they?

In the past I've never really bothered with extended warranties on consoles or smaller items as generally most things are pretty reliable.

I think given the track records of both Xbox 360 (RROD) and the PS3 (YLOD), I'd like to think Sony have addressed the issue with the Slim, but I'd personally get an EW for peace of mind.

Got mine today after lots of deliberation!

went to HN and asked them to better JB's price

they offered $490 + game (of choice) + HDMI cable. WHen they couldn't find the cable, they offered to reduce the price by a further $30 (which i accepted cos that's what i would have been asking for to sell the cable).

so final equation

PS3 Slim + Game of choice = $460
