Looking for a recorder for relos (also in Geelong...Hi PVE).  Just needs a good basic machine and the TEAC seems to fit the bill.

Just looking through the manual for details on skipping.

The prev/next buttons seems to the be dedicate skip buttons.
Gowinch says skip forward is 60 secs.  Is skip back the same amount?

The manual also mentions (section 4. Playback Process Bar) that  the volume up and down can also be used for small skips to jump 'dozens of seconds at a time'.
Has any one tried this?
Can anyone confirm (roughly) how much time it actually skips?
Is it useful.  It seems a bit fiddly in that you have to press the INFO key to bring up the Process Bar for this function to work.

Thanks in advance :D

Yes. You are quite right. The Previous/ Next buttons tend towards large skips - ie 8 minutes in a 65 minute file. The Volume +/- buttons skip 1 minute at a time but you do need to press the info bar button first. This is not really a drama as they are right next to each other. But it is another button to push. Having said that I must reiterate that the FF/REW is the smoothest I have ever encountered. No frozen screen it jut rolls on at higher speed on screen - most impressive. Hi to you too - if you go ahead see if you can screw a better price than $550 out of them. And don't forget you might want to investigate the Aldi twin tuner at Aldi on Thursday - $299 is a great price; its a question of how much that price compromises the integrity of the unit. Good luck!

Forgot to mention that Big W had a sale yesterday and I picked up a 320gb external drive for $69. Plugged it in,selected it and now I have a 820GB capacity on my Teac! Too easy!

Thanks for following up with the requested info.

Saw the Tevion unit in the ALDI catalogue.  Price is tempting but not much info around on the unit.  As someone else mentioned (in separate thread), worth giving it a go and returning it if it's no good.

Great price on those Verbatim drives.  Glad to hear you got one.  Thought it might have been bait adversting - get you into the store only to find the sold already sold.

Just bought one of these units for 350Dollars

I was happy until I realised a major shortcoming with this unit.

576P Resolution output is composite only...no component ..not even s-video !

It has component but in the small print only outputs HD 720p & 1080i through it...no 576p output !

Now this wouldnt matter unless you have a big ol CRT TV like mine..and Im sure there are others out there that like me wanted a little more mileage out of there ol TV's

This IS the only unit Ive ever known not able to output 576p through component!

Now Ive got to put up with substandard PQ.

Buyer Beware !

Where did you get it at that price?
I hope it is close to tweed heads & they have some left.
This is the teac hrd2500 that you paid $350 for?

Are you sure it was the current model unit with the brushed aluminium front panel?

http://www.teac.com.au/product/3/611

There have been a few teac HD PVR's out over the past 2 years, $350 is crazy cheap. I have been talking with TEAC regarding selling the new model units so I know what the reseller channel price is, $350 is nowhere close!

If it is the model above then your xmas came early (or someone at the shop is going to lose their job!)

Yes guys its true I did pay 350 for it and yes it is the Teac HDR2500T
Perhaps they fell of the back of a lorry...seriously it is brand new in the box..so Im not complaining about the price.

How else would I know the software vers number..!
btw I just updated to the beta software..so far so good. !

However Im not happy as this thing does not have component for CRT ...only has composite..I do not advise anyone buying it if they want a PVR set top for a CRT TV.

Ive just told TEAC Customer Care that what I thought about this box not being able to watch 576 SD through its component outputs.

After talking for ages to the service guy and then the sales guy..I finally got them to agree it does not do 576 through the component....I was told that composite is really no different to component in quality..(ahem we agreed to disagree on that!)

Page 29 halfway down .... the manual states:

Note:You can enjoy only standard definition video with the composite video connector

Funny thing is..on the packaging there is sticker that is covering something?..the sticker says "Simulataneous Analog and Digital Video Outputs CVBS, Component and HDMI"  Not totally true...it does NOT except for 576 thru component !

I expressed my dissatisfaction and I was told to return the unit. I said the packaging is not telling the whole story, a lot of pepole would expect the unit to do 576 thru component from the packaging...
Even the spec sheet in the manual seems to suggest the unit DOES do 576 thru component....
they said they would take it up with marketing.

I had to have a look and see what was underneath that sticker....and Voila !

Underneath the very sticky hard to remove sticker was...  printed on the box S-Video output

Now if the unit had had S-Video then all would be well..most would accept the quality of S-video over composite.

Wonder what happened ..skimping on the S-Video ?

I agree, disappointing as I have a big old CRT as well...

The other thing I've only just seen is that the rear of this unit, and the remote control, looks incredibly similar to a YESS PVR...also the screenshots of the menu structure look very, very similar.

Would be disappointing to realise that I've paid an extra $150-odd for a YESS PVR.

On another note, uploaded the BETA firmware and seems to function fine - fixed some reception dropouts that was experiencing with the previous firmware update. Would be good if they provided some version release notes!

The Plot thickens !

tigersboy you are right...That YESS t4688 unit is tha same as the TEAC HDR2500T unit !

I went to the YESS website to look at the back of the unit and as you say it is idenitcal..

http://www.yessav.co...hd-usb-pvr.html

then onto the YESS manual
and it is very very similar except that ..it looks like you can run 576P thru component on the YESS unit...

on Page 28 of the YESS unit manual it says

Note: If Composite or Component Video cables are used to connect the device to
your TV, you will only be able to watch HD channels in Standard Definition.

whereas on page 29 of the TEAC Manual it says...
Note:You can enjoy only standard definition video with the composite video connector   :o   :o  <_<

It appears the YESS 4688 Unit does push out 576P thru its component outputs whereas the identical unit the TEAC HDR2500T does NOT ?!!??

Can anyone confirm that the YESS unit does push out 576P through component as it appears to say in the manual...???

Perhaps I should ask this in the YESS thread.

The Firmware also looks the to be very similar between the YESS and the TEAC

I wonder if its just a software difference to enable 576 over component...I wonder if the YESS software will work on the TEAC
There is only one way to find out....am I brave enough hmmmm.......

YESS Firmware File Name:
N8103_YESS_DVB-T4688U_20091119.rs232

TEAC Firmware File Name:
N8103_TEAC_091113.rs232

Look similar you reckon ?! File Size is also identical = 8,193Kb

Well I couldnt wait..tried the YESS software...YES it works on the TEAC !
The front LED panel shows gobbledeegook however.  The rest works fine..

BUT It did not fix the 576P output thru component

Just loaded the TEAC software back on and all is well

So..the TWO UNITS are ALMOST IDENTICAL...

Perhaps my TV Component is not working....can anyone please confirm if the TEAC does or not work with 576P selected using component output ?
Cheers

This area of the Yess manual is dodgy - In the Yess thread its correctedEssentially the Yess outputs only 576i (SD) over composite (it downgrades any higher res eg 576p, 1080i) to do this. It will output 576p and higher over the component and hdmi outputs.

Can't speak for the TEAC but this is almost certainly the same.

just because you have component inputs doesn't mean it supports progressive scan, check your user manual for the TV and see what it says

Cant find the manual for my old Panasonic TX51P100H..and nothing else I have to try thru it that is Progressive.

So the call goes goes out to any TEAC HDR2500T users who have a CRT with Progressive Component input...please can you try it on the setting of 576P  !?

Thanks

I am in a state of disbelief. Luck just never, ever runs my way. But now, all that has changed. I bought my Teac on 9/11/2009. Now I suddenly find myself in a position to be shortly in receipt of a bonus DVD player, courtesy of Teac and this forums canny adherents. Just goes to show..... well something I guess. The unit itself is very fine.

Is the TEAC better value than the identical YESS unit ?.. if you can get a good price and a free DVD player the answer would be likely a yes with only one s !

WIthout the DVD player then its all about the price difference.
