My parents are through tels. have tried and failed to get a discount on anything foxtel related

I am too.  I have tried them twice over the last couple of months and was given a flat 'no - we have no specials at the moment'.  They did try to flog me a second box, even after I told them I only had 1 tv - go figure...

I'm in the same boat as Deccas.  I just called them then and tried to bargain on upgrading to IQ2.  The best they would do would be $100 install and $5/mth, BUT I had to upgrade my package and get 3 add-ons (My Escape, My Playtime and My World), which costs $25/mth additional.  If I then drop those additional packages off in the future I would be charged $10/mth for IQ2.

Overall it would save me $80 on just getting it now and not changing my package - nothing near what I would save if I could get $100 install and $5/mth that some people are quoting.

I am getting IQ2 connected tomorrow. We are existing customers that have the 3x My "xyz" packages already, so it is $100 install, $5 per month. Free HD channels for 1 months.

Are you with 'Foxtel through Telstra' or with 'Foxtel' directly?  If it's the former and you got the above deal I'll be interested to know how you managed to wring that out of Telstra.  I'm already a Platinum subscriber and I'd be happy to have IQ2 at $5 a month (was your deal for 12 months only though?)

I just got off the phone to Telstra who we get our Foxtel through and was told that it's $200 install for a technician to come out and install it and then $10/month for the IQ2 box and because it's new and in demand, there's no chance of them offering deals just yet until the market becomes saturated. When I mentioned that there are always heaps of Foxtel ads around with deals on, the salesdroid tells me that Foxtel do everything they can to entice new customers and bugger all for existing ones. Never a truer word spoken.

Meh.

I disagree. I rang foxtel to get IQ connected. They offered me the deal before I had a chance to ask for one.
They would have given me free install if I had gone multiroom. (Free install of the second box.)

I would say that the problem is Tel$tra.

hey, someone at work mentioned the $100 installation, $5 a month deal with IQ2. Then I came and had a look here.

I rang foxtel and they said it was no longer offered? :( However, she said sales would get back to me.

Hi OatleyLad,
My experience - rang friday a week ago (the 13th).  <_<
Regular sales rep said there was a deal, but that they would have to refer it to their "sales" people. Someone would call in 24-48.
I rang again the following Wednesday. Consultant knew nothing of the offer. Checked with Supervisor.
There is an offer, but I need someone else to log the job so you get the deal.

I rang again Friday the 20th. (This time I was a little steamed.)
The person who answered was able to sort it all out straight away. ( i don't know why he was different to the previous 2)
That was last Friday.

I suggest try calling again, as the front line consultants seemed to know little / were not authorised to offer any deals.

PS - Don't connect the HD channels. They will offer them for a free one month trial :)

Hi All,

I have foxtel iQ at the moment and I am looking at upgrading to iQ2. What is the best possible deal I can get with foxtel at the moment?

Thanks.
K.

cheers mate, yeah guy at work here was saying the same.

Perservere. Will try again later.

No surprises that I haven't got a call. There wouldn't be much margin in it for them to bother!

And what about Foxtel ditching the $50 credit to you if you recommend a new subscriber. Now its $50 card to use at Coles/Myer. I recommended about 2 to 3 friends a year and got $50 bucks off my next bill. Take your Coles/Myer card and sit on it.

Went to a small Westfields foxtel shop and got these offers

IQ1 - 3 Months free IQ box rental, no install, first month premium package free, 12 month contract

OR

IQ2 - 3 months free IQ box rental, $200 install, first month premium package free, 7 months HD channels free, 12 month contract.

Not sure if these are any good but thought I'd pass them on.

Also, can anyone tell me why IQ2 has a $200 install??? Apart from a HDMI cable, the other cables are the same as an IQ1 (which has no install cost).

I mean I have the outlet foxtel ready, I just need someone to bring the box and plug it in.

to cover, at least partially, the cost of the IQ2 hardware upfront.

the same thing was done for early adopters of the IQ1.

I thought that might be the case but it sucks to have to pay rental for the box and then have them lug their extra expense under "installation"

Just ordered HD with IQ2

I got sent a marketing promo for free install, 3 months free access to IQ and 1 month free premium value

But I inquired about IQ2 and HD and ended up still getting the 3 months free access to IQ2, one months free access for premium value package and 7 months free to all the HD Channels

Got the upgrade fee down to to $150 instead of $200

supposed to be installed next tue.. rock on!

I do have questions though which guy couldnt fully answer about installation he said building is wired up for cable no sweat. I dont already have a point behind the tv for the coax and he said the tech would piggy back the connection of the telephone line somehow.. Dont know how that works because I thought it would just be a straight coax connection into my unit and a point placed near the TV

But I know this cant be done because I have concrete walls and buiding is from the 1930's so no way they would have been able to wire up the wall cavities with coax..

So I said well if its coming off my phone point, I dont have one of those near my tv so does that mean Im going to have cables running across the floor??

My other question was about the interactive stuff I know it needs to be connected to the landline for that but I have naked DSL and no active landline.. Does the box hardwire into the phone line like a back to base alarm system or do you just plug the RJ45 into the IQ2?? In which case I guess I can just run a cable into my voip ATA for that.. But even if not I dont think its a biggie.. Just means I cant order movies on demand and vote right??? Both those features dont matter to me anyways

Cheers!!

The standard price for iQ1 install was supposed to be $125 (or at least it was when I got my iQ2 in Feb 09).
The additional $75 has been worth it in my opinion, given that rental for both iQ1 and iQ2 are both $10 per month.

wouldnt mind knowing the answer to that question as well,

Well i just got my Foxtel setup for the $0- deal going on atm.
12months, 1st month free etc.
im also wondering since its only been 5 working days since signing the form, and the fact you get 10 days of grace period to pull out if need be, I was gonna try and call them for a few extra bonuses like most of you guys also seemed to score or tell them Austar has a more persuading deal....(at least try for free IQ1 for first 6 months would even be nice...)
anyway,
glad to watch the footy live and not have to download some ones recorded game days later... :)

cheers

If you have satellite, they need to run a second coax cable from the dish.

I have IQ2. The phone line just connects to an RJ45, but like a phone.
My understanding is that most of the interactive stuff happens via the coax cable.

When we had a faulty standard digital STB replaced, the tech told me that the phone cable was almost redundant and didn't bother plugging it back in.

Checked the Foxtel website today and noticed hey are advertising the IQ2 with free installation, free 1st month prmium an on a 12mth contract.

Are they finally ditching the $200 install fee or is the devil in the detail?

Hi Bammac,

"Sign up now and get FREE* installation of FOXTEL. Plus, when you upgrade to FOXTEL HD+ for just $200, we'll throw in your very first month of our Premium Value package – as well as all HD+ channels** – absolutely FREE*!"

The way I read it is that you are getting a free foxtel install, but pay $200 if you want to upgrade to IQ2.

From Foxtels website (for IQ2)

"FOXTEL iQ2 customers require fixed phone line for FBO and adult services."

This of course can also be done by calling them.
