When Is Sc10 Hd Transmisson Starting?

Just wondering if anyone knows when Ten Newcastle is actually going to transmit HD like Ten Sydney instead of the demo. I feel this is highly irresponsible to the viewers out there who have HD sets. I am one of the lucky ones who is able to receive Ten Sydney HD with very minimal dropouts but I constantly think about the ones who can't receive Sydney and are left out from HD broadcasts.

You're lucky being able to get Sydney HD channels.. what suburb are you in?
Do you get them from the Central Coast UHF repeater at Forrester's Beach, or from Sydney on VHF?
I believe Southern Cross TEN will be increasing their HD output sometime in the next few months (for some reason, only SOME of TEN Sydney's simulcasted SD/HD programming is on SC TEN, not all of it).
None of the dedicated HD programming eg. timeshifted TEN News at 5.30pm currently appears on SC TEN either.
Though I should try and fiind out whether SC TEN will carry the TEN Network's new 24 hr sports channel, ONE (which is due to start in April).
That is bound to coincide with the 2nd season of the IPL cricket tournament.

What happens when an ad break arrives, is that the program reverts to the HD demo test loop, since of course it is pointless (well) to view the capital city ads.
A 'testing phase' they told me for an early 09 full time start.
Since all this, we know of course TEN HD is being replaced by ONE, the TEN 24 Sports Channel that will also be shown ON SD as well. I presume then, SCTV will simply rollout ONE in its HD format.

I wonder if SC10 will change it's LCN from 50 to 1. Makes no sense having ONE HD on LCN 50

I doubt it... After all, SC10's main channel is on LCN 5, and not 10, so it doesn't seem to be that big a problem.

they won't because otherwise they'll have to send different LCN's to different areas, e.g. central coast and gold coast get metro and regional channels of the same transmitters, if sc10 tried changing to 1, they would have to make sure that change didn't occur in these areas otherwise there'd be a conflict.

I am in Charlestown. The view is straight down to the sea so it is clear without any obstacles. I am getting it through VHF from Sydney and not the central coast. I designed the antenna setup myself as no installer, whether professional or amateur would install a 10 element VHF yagi for me. Mind you, it is only 10 element and not the 18 element which is recommended. Using a Kingray MHV44HLG amplifier turned down to lowest gain. So strangely, with the minimal gain required the performance is fantastic. I had the central coast setup removed as many dropouts were experienced. Some of the local professional installers recommended I keep my central coast setup. I found this very unusual as they should know that it is not very successful with digital transmission. So I am very happy with my 10 element VHF yagi, EE06 Wisi pointing to Mt Sugarloaf, Ch 3 antenna and MHV44HLG amplifier. Digital is perfect in all aspects.

True. Though frankly the killing of the Ten HD channel in favour of bloody sport (and selling off shows to Foxtel) killed any interest I had in TenHD (and FTA commercial DigitalTV actually).

You are doing very well getting HD broadcasts on a VHF antenna. I had to scrap my whole rig and replace it with a new UHF antenna and quad cables.
Fortunately the local channels are broadcasting more wide-screen and HD material now.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is actually going on with Ten HD here in Newcastle. There doesn't seem to be any more HD shows on the channel, just the demo loop?
Thanks,
Stephen

SC10 will not show ONE HD until later this year at the earliest according to all reports. If they come good it would be a miracle because SC10HD shows only the loop since Jan 09.

Australian broadcaster Macquarie Southern Cross Media (MCSM) recently deployed a 140 HD-channel SeaChange play-to-air platform, representing one of the largest HD platforms in Australia.
MCSM installed SeaChange’s Broadcast MediaLibrary/MediaClient (BML/MCL) play-to-air platform, consisting of BML transmission storage severs and MCL software codecs, which when combined, provide the broadcaster with 60 ingest and playout channels for programming and 80 ingest and playout channels for commercials. The system is also supporting turnaround delay at MCSM.
Based in the nation’s capital of Canberra, MCSM delivers a wide range of programming to audiences in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
The BML/MCL’s ability to play back MCSM’s legacy SD Pinnacle Mediastream files was a critical factor in the broadcaster’s decision to choose the SeaChange platform. According to Craig Armsworth, group manager for systems & digital media at Magna Systems, which is serving as integrator on the project, “The SeaChange servers are the only ones on the market that can take an SD Pinnacle file directly and replay it back out as HD, thereby upconverting it. This was a particular advantage when we took part in the server ‘shoot out.’”
Regards,
Crownmsw123 - Good job re your VHF install for RX of Sydney VHF, I'd be inclined to keep it so once SCTV starts with ONE HD, at least you'd get Sydney centric ads during breaks:-) And your LCN for ONE HD would be on 1!

I'm currently living in Hamilton, and on some occations I can get ONEHD to show with a few breakups and on other occations I can't get anything at all. I was wondering if i was to buy an amp of some sort, would it make a difference or is there terrain causing a problem. I live in an apartment block and the Antenna is pretty high up so i don't know of the configuration or which transmitter it is getting it from. I wouldn't mind being able to pick up ONEHD for the motorsport season coming up.
Your help is appreciated.

You need to answer alot of the questions raised by your post before there's any hope of ONE HD being available.
If you are really getting ONEHD then the frequency will be 788.5Mhz from Forresters Beach (this being UHF signal) or possibly 219.5Mhz from Sydney (VHF signal) - not available from Newcastle at the moment. This is important because you would need one or two types of antenna (VHF or UHF) suitable for those frequencies and in turn a suitable amp (VHF or UHF suited amp).
If the roof top antenna already has an amp attached and working then an additional amp indoors (what I think you're asking about) might not work or cause damage or make it worse.
Check your Digital tuner (tv or PVR or STB) for the exact frequency.
Regardless of that no antenna installer in Newcastle will move that antenna if required to Central Coast or Sydney because they will claim reception is iffey and that's pretty much right.
If you are dead keen then buy one from a retailer that accepts returns like Dick Smith in case there's no benefit. I use a Kingray outdoor amp for UHF only antennas that picks up Forresters Beach no problem except for some breakages at times on Nine. That being said, I have no ABC or SBS reception from that source since it stuffs up that two with the Newcastle signal being the same frequency, however be it you are in Hamilton it might not affect that area (more likely just my area further south). Since the hill to Charlestown is inth way to both CC and SYD, it's a tricky situation. Changing cabling might help but costs and in an apartment seems tricky to start with. A new antenna might also help but yours may be fine as it. If it's shared amongst residents, there may be an amp already to distribute the signal to all of you without reception loss making an extra amp no so easy for a beginning to fiddle with. Your STB might be a bit weak but since you get no reception at times it's likely you're outside the reception area
Try both frequencies and see which works the best first. If it's the UHF one remember there's possible ABC and SBS loss but otherwise for an outdoor amp try Kingray from Jaycar or DJ Coulter something with 34 or 44db boost. If you are sharing the antenna then you better get permission fromt he body corpotate otherwise it may be a total screw up for all the building residents not just yours. As for indoor amps, again see Dick Smith - they have two on sale and cost around $50. The outdoor one will be $100-$150. As for VHF, no idea that's from Sydney and like the Central Coast signal your are is well outside the reliable reception zone. if you were in Warners Bay then no problem, likewise Charlestown but Hamilton has extra hills to contend with to the south.
SC10 will likely have ONE HD later this year so if you can wait try that or try your luck otherwise but there is no (realistically little) chance you can fix it well enough

I'm not too sure how to find out where the signal is coming from but the following info is from the Signal Information on my TV for ONEHD.
At the moment it is working quite well, if it keeps up like this is is definately watchable.
Service - ONE HD
Service ID: 0621, Running
Multiplex: 11C (TSID 0602, ONID 1014)
Network : Network TEN (ID 3215)
Bit Error Level: (most of the time is 0 - but everynow and again it will be 3-5)
Signal Strength: 22-27
I'm keen to get it working for this weekend, With the Formula 1 starting and the coverage they have is amazing for the 3 days they are on.
I also have channel 11 - ONE HD and 12 - ONE SD, which again at the moment are working quite well.
If it's only around $50 for an indoor amp I might give it a try and see how I go. I'd hate for friday to come and the signal has gone and I can't get it back. Could the weather have anything to do with it? Just a thought.

Yes, calm warm conditions tends to bring about better reception for some reason, therefore you might find windy cool conditions no signal at all. If you get digital from pc tv tuner then I have no idea how that works. From a set top box or tv check either setup to display the signal quality and strength and the frequency is usuallu there.

Your location seems to be quite elevated. if so, a uhf phased array (see Dick Smith website) for Forresters Beach may work to an amp like a kingray or similar quality. the warners bay area along the esplanade (speers point end) have some examples of the setup. also out at rathmines. just remember, ABC and SBS might get lost doing this though

With that sad and sorry fact in mind.. can anyone shed some light on what sort of set up I will need to get Sydney Digital reception in (gulp) Nelson Bay !
We are at the base of Gan Gan so locally digital reception is sensational... it's just the fact there is NOTHING actually being broadcast locally that is the problem.
We have 3 separate TV antennas on the roof of our house (none of them actually connected due to our location under Gan Gan)
My question is: Is it a pointless exercise even attempting to get Sydney Digital reception from this location ? (DAMN YOU SC10)
