Wall Mounting Guide 101

I want to wall mount a 42" plasma in my bedroom. Its a new house and it will be going onto a wall that is recessed and 2.2wide.
I was looking at some of the wall mounting kits online and it looks like you install a wall bracket and then screw a couple of metal arms to your Plasma and then fit the arms to the wall bracket.
My question is, do you slide the arms on the plasma onto the wall bracket from the side or do you click in in from the top? If its from the side, I wont have enough clearance as I don't have the 1.7m (width of plasma) or so required between where the wall bracket will be to the side of the wall. If it clicks in from the top, I will be fine.
Can anyone confirm?

I guess it depends on the model, but I know that my wall mount, which is a Selby Acoustics model, clicks in from the top. I'm really happy with it - really good price and very sturdy. I'm sure there's more feature-rich models but you can't beat the price. Mine is situated on a narrow strip of wall between 2 areas of wall moulding (old house with the chunky ornamental wall/door mouldings), so I had the same problem as you. Works just fine.

I have had my plasma since cup weekend but I only just got around to wall mounting it last weekend (long story - lets just say the previous owned patched a hole where a wall furnace was very dodgy)
I always looked at my TH50-PZ800A as a large screen - but since wall mounting - it looks freaking massive! its awesome.
i mounted my 42" plasma on the weekend and it definately seems to look bigger, even the mrs commented on it.
i used THIS mount from Selby's, which has worked out fine.
Ran into a couple of issues though:
- the wall studs were a tad under 400mm apart, which meant i couldnt centre it. i expected they would be 600mm, which i thought was the building standard.
- the kit is supposed to come with 3 different sizes of washers, to match the 3 different options for the screws that go into the back of the plasma. my kit was missing the ones i needed.
- it didnt come with an allan key needed to adjust some of the bolts and it wasnt listed as one of the tools you need to have.
got there in the end though and am happy with the outcome. it was pretty easy, but definately a 2 man job.

For mounting screens on a stud wall, I would be inclined to pre-drill all screw holes, and don't make the holes too narrow -- particularly in hardwood studs. Don't make them too wide either!

BTW I see that AV Design Solutions has gotten a few wraps for servicing the Melbourne Metro area but does anyone have any similar recommendations for the Sydney Metro area?
Cheers

Hopefully this thread is still active.
I have recently bought a Panasonic th50px80a Plasma. The instructions say that 70mm is required behind the tv to the wall when using the pedestal.
My question is what is the minimum clearance I could have between the tv and wall when mounting it on the wall? 70mm would bad. The bracket I have only gives 18mm if I dont use any spacers.
Thankyou

18mm - that's a very thin profile. As long as the screen isn't enclosed (ie recessed into a cavity), and you have free space all around the screen, then I can't see a problem with maybe 50mm space

Thanks for the reply. The tv is just on a flat wall no recess. Air can flow freely. Yes 18mm is close, which will look good. But I don't want to cause the tv to over heat/void my warranty.
I tried phoning panasonic and asking them, however they were useless.
Any other ideas how I can find the minimum, or is 50mm the minimum?

Looking to mount my Sony Bravia KDL46X3100 on a plasterboard wall with suitable studs.
Problem is the not included M6 x 16mm bolts that selby's warns about... It would seem the Sony uses just those "+PSW6x16 (4)".
Does anyone know where I can source these screws from?
I hope this all goes well! I'm planning on having the TV being the only thing on the wall, with the cupboard in the room behind actually hosting my HTPC, PS3, Wii & 360!!! Wireless controllers are great, as are IR receivers (HTPC).
Should look wonderfully simplistic... Thanks Selby for the 20% discount too!

So they're screws rather than bolts? Or will it be abundantly apparent to me when I see them?
I won't go cheap, I presume these are the 'weakest links' in the bracket structure if it's all correctly mounted.
Any tips for which to get? Titanium or such?
