That's a good looking job. Like your entertainment unit too. Where did you get that and how much was it?
Can remote IR commands work through the glass front?

Thanks.

The entertainment unit was from Super-A-Mart!  From memory it was around the $500 mark or thereabouts?!  No problems with remote IR commands thru the frosted glass front (which slides out of the way as well).  PS3 uses bluetooth which also works fine thru the glass.

Hi guys

can anyone reccommend if it would be safe to wall mount a 64" Series 8 Samsung Plasma to a house with steel frames? I dont have anything behind the walls there and the studs are 600mm apart. I would like to wall mount it but also i want to make sure that later on if need be i want to upgrade to the 80-90" TV's once the tech is better and they come down in price.

Right now i have the Paradigm SA-35 v3 Speakers in Wall, but i purposley got the Paradigm Studio CC-590 Centre because i didnt want to put the centre in wall incase a larger TV would cover the center later on. This center is pretty massive and i rather put it ontop of my cabinet than inside my cabinet (getting a custom cabinet designed next week) so any suggestions would be good. Thanks!

Should be ok mounting onto a steel frame.
Just get the right type of screws - make sure you talk to the support guys/gals at Bunnings or Hardware store to get the right ones.

Self drilling hex head roofing/cladding screws think about 65mm are what I use.
Be careful not to overtighten them as they can only be tightened so much before risk of gyprock damage or tearing the thread through the stud-
Its a good idea to drill pilot holes.

Hopefully the mounting frame will line up with your studs otherwise you will be in trouble. Screws into gyprock will not support the weight. You will need to drill pilot holes into the steel studs the only way you will get the screws in. Roofing screws are ideal they should be meaty enough to hold the weight and are designed to be self tapping.

Not ideal, but Super Wall Mates will do up to 20 KG

I've had my rear speakers (15 kg each) hanging off them for about 5 years now with no problems.

100% with you mwd, Screws into gyprock will not support the weight-
if you like your tv dont use wallmates,
if you have children dont use wallmates,
if you have pets in the house dont use wallmates,
if you have any common sense dont use wallmates on heavy items you want to stay on your wall.
Llarge items cause damage when they fall if you are not certain you can do a job properly get a tradesman in to do it-they have the knowledge and experience to get it done right and the insurance to cover if anything goes wrong!

Mark when drilling your pilot holes have your drill on a low speed setting-high will just burn the drill bit tip and make it blunt.

Oh well ... a day can't go by without mugman storm grinding an axe and having a troll from months back LOL! :hyper: :hyper:

Funny! It was a professional installer that put me onto them ... if you dig into the performance testing of them the large ones will do nearly double their rated weight (36 kgs for memory)*.

Its highly unlike that there will be two studs in the perfect position for mounting, at least one into the steal frame and these will support the others fine.

edit:* that's a vertical load - I would not use them for anything that hangs out from the wall applying any horizontal force (like a large shelf or hinged TV braket) ... and I DID say "not ideal".

You can use extra large toggle bolts through the metal studs, this is essentially like using nuts and bolts.  Two on each stud will work perfectly.

Nice I'm free, they are a safe option..

Mark, do it the right way and if later upgrade to a larger tv occurs you will have no trouble using the same mount.

Chops-best to stop suggesting things that will eventually cause damage to the user or their gear.

If you knew what you were on about you would know a 64in tv has a width of around 1300mm, the bracket is around 800mm, studs are at 600mm.
You have plenty of room to adjust horizontal position of the tv by either mounting the bracket up to 200mm either side of the 2 studs you secure to, you also have further adjustment by simply sliding the tv horizontally on the bracket.
Regardless of what brackjet you use the weight of the tv is at the front where the screen is, this will pull gyprock screws out!

No axes grinding just pointing out theres a right and wrong way to do things.
You remind me of alanh!

Jason, are you saying that toggle bolts are better than Super Wall Mates? (note I was referring to Super Wall Mates and not the vanilla wall mates you have referred to) I have put the steel ones into pre drilled steel frame studs and they are rock solid.

Super Wall Mates should be fine in steel studs just have to drill a bigger hole to allow for the diameter.
We probably misinterpreted your original post to be Super Wall Mates just through the Gyprock. I think the OP should be an expert at wall hanging by now. If using the Wall Mates I would probably go for 6 depending on the mounting frame to spread the loading.

PS I used a magnet to discover where the steel studs were behind the wall.

I have a stud finder from Aldi that does steel, wood and power (to be safe) ... Iirc it was around$10

Chops, thats where we differ, I dont use wallmates at all. Your super wallmates are the same as a toggle bolt-I would be suprised if they went deep enough to get the toggle behind the steel frame but if they have worked for you then all that matters is you are happy with them.

I, being in business and doing this for a living don't cut corners or use the wrong tools for a job.

Toggle bolts run through the steel frame would hold ok but not as well as the right self drilling hex head roofing screws.

If I correct someone on here its not an insult its a correction that will save someone time and often money.

Hey guys, just a big thank you to Jason from Storm AV who came out to my place and wall mounted my Samsung 64" Plasma.

Was a pleasure to deal with, great price, and lots of help! I wouldnt of attempted to wall mount it myself (i cant even lift the tv myself for starters) so i was happy to have a professional come out and install for me.

I have a house with a Steel Frame, and this posed no problems. Jason used proper bolts to mount the bracket for the TV.

Thanks again Jason - highly recommended to anyone who needs to get a TV wall mounted professionally!
