However, IMHO, the presenters of the Aussie version of Top Gear would like to think they're funny, would like to think they're smart, but they're neither.
Last night's show was even worse than the first. They even messed up the comparison between the Clubsport & the F6--pretty hard to do that, but they tried REALLY hard to muck it up, & they did--I mean, surely there's more to testing cars than sliding, making a bit of smoke, & laughing at your own jokes.
Similarly, the GT Ford session was more crap--no engine specs or photos etc, in fact no specific drive train info at all.
And, luckily, as I taped the show, I was able to use the F/F function for the Smart Car "segment".
I don't see a long future for the series, which I reckon is a MASSIVE failure, & a real missed opportunity.
They've tried to copy Clarkson, Hammond & James etc, every step of the way, & they've failed-every step of the way.
They'd have been better off NOT trying to imitate the English presenters, & just doing their own INDIVIDUAL show.
I love my cars, NEVER miss a European Top Gear--but I find this show BORING.
Cheers, GTO.

Ep 1 - GTS vs Typhoon
SS vs XR8 vs XR6T
Fooly sikk Habib in his POS GTT R33 Skyline vs Mr Rice in his riced up civic starting at Noble Park Maccas
Ep 2 - HK Monaro vs GTHO PHIII in old skool showdown
Magna/380 vs Aurion
Patrol vs Landcruiser
Thats pretty much covers all the aussie car comparisons, no point comparing massively overpriced lambos etc over here on our 110kph roads when they are 1/3 the price and a couple of hours from the autobahns in the original pommy show.
that being said i still havent watched any episodes yet!

That reminds me of a quote from this week's episode regarding the GT, "now back on the road for what this car is intended"

I'd love to see that comparison, as an in depth review of both...........with some tyre warming thrown in
cheers

To be expected I guess but this will obviously impact on what they can do. As for the 110km/h limit they could always go to NT and gst another 20km/h.......ooops, I forgot, budget constraints..........

hahah probably because they wanted to compare the performance flagships of each brand, the Typhoon has always been regarded as fords top offering, and IIRC the Clubby is bees dick quicker than the GTS because of slightly lower weight.
but yes, mucho tyre warming will be needed !!

For me the FPV flagship is the GT-P, V8, more power than the 6 and about 11 grand more.
The GTS is still the flagship for HSV (unless you count the W427) even though the 0-100 time is the same as the R8.
For me they should have compared apples with apples and at least named a winner. Good to see some sideways action but other than that another Oz top gear disappointment.

I guess if price and capacity come into it then the GT-P or GT-E should be the flagship... But its been widely proven the F6's have a lot more power than the V8's regardless of what the on paper figures say - the new 310kw F6 has been dyno'ing around 275-285rwkw stock as a rock, which would equate to about 330-340 flywheel kilowatts taking into account drivetrain losses etc.
for some reason i thought the R8 was a bees appendage quicker than the GTS due to the GTS being slightly porkier, my bad !!
I wish FPV would bring out a competitor to the W427, even a typhoon with a flash tune would give it a run performance-wise, but a $60k typhoon + $20k of brakes, interior and engine mods would rip it a new a-hole hahahha..
im not biased but i reckon the W is not worth the $150k price tag when you look at the other cars for similar coin - M3, AMG C63, R35 GTR (drool!)

Wish I had one.
Considering the chatter seems I was wrong in my original assessment, guess they knew what they were doing when the did a Ford versus Holden.
Oh well, I guess they can please some of the people some of the time.
Do you think they could get away with Ford versus Holden every other week?

yeh no **** !! if i had 150k to spend on a car and nothing else, it wouldnt be a W !! if it had to be holden or Ford it would probably be a GTS (havent seen a GT-E/P in the flesh so no idea how they look or drive) plus the balance on a full head, cam and stroker kit with an intercooled Twin turbo setup to top it off haha.. plus some nice wheels and brakes of course

ROFL yeh i know !!
it started with the BA Typhoon when the GT was still perceived as the Halo model in the FPV range - Ford wanted the legendary GT nameplate to continue to be the flagship moniker, but unfortunately the GT name hasnt lived up to expectations. The BA-BF's were a lovely sounding but ultimately low revving truck motor when stock.
I was 100% deadset on a GT but while waiting for my usual salesman when i was ready to buy, another one offered (insisted) me a testdrive of a typhoon, one drive and i was sold haha

haha yeh you might hit 500 flywheel kw with that blower kit on a VE, but you'd be pushing it IMO with stock internals !!! add new rods, pistons, fuel system, zorst and tuning and it would be close to $25k if not more i reckon
this VE Calais V here only pulled 370rwkw and it would be around the $30k mark i reckon ;
LS7 Block
Forged crank, pistons, rods
Compression 9.6:1
CNC Ported L92 heads with Patriot extremes
Dual 3" exhaust
Harrop/VCM Dual Fuel Pump system for VE.
60lb injectors
Harrop 122 Supercharger
medium sized cam
Roller Rockers
http://www.ls1.com.a...ad.php?t=106492
and thats one big expensive motor, pretty much a built and blown W427 motor !! would sound farken unreal at full noise in a tunnel though!!
