I dont know about others but with the dollar falling to below US$0.80, all of a sudden it makes buying Blu Ray discs rather expensive.

In some cases it will now be on par with local releases as far as $$ is concerned.
So whats the consensus? Will you still buy regardless or be more selective with you choices?

Personally I will be more selective while the currency is so low. Once it gets back into the mid to high $0.80's I will be start to order more.

Yep, I've already cut back. Admittedly this was due to the $ drop and the wifes fury...

The drop has been astounding in the past six weeks. Is it due to belated economic competence of the US administration or incompetence of local financial policy?

On the one hand it is almost unbelievable, while the latter is sobering.

Such a shame, we had it good there for a while when the dollar was almost on par with the US$. With interest rates expected to keep falling, it will mean a continuing sinking dollar. So maybe with the money you save on your homeloan, you may be able to put it into Blu Ray discs?!

Personally, I will only buy discs now on special & only ones I really really want!!

Yep, halted.

And to answer Fouler, there is perceived strength about the US economy and as a result their dollar (which had been weak) has now strengthened. As a result other currencies have dropped and subsequently gold too.

Drops are large but the volatility world wide is high at the moment and big peaks and troughs on the charts are being seen.

can't see myself spending up big on BDs with the current rate.

It's even having me rethink my pre-orders for Band of Brothers, Firefly and Lost S4 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

The drop in our dollar is directly related to:

a) US economy gaining a little momentum.
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Falling interest rates
c) Falling commodity prices

I do believe though that the aussie is currently under valued. I think it will bounce back some what, not to the levels we saw though.

I am trying to slow down my ordering (and not just because of the drop in the $, upgraditis has taken it's toll (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) )...................but with not much success. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

It does however make it a tad more expensive now though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

And i am over there next week, totally PO, always happens when i go to the states. I would have been better buying the gear 6-8 weeks ago and paid for shipping than what i am facing now.

I know how feel. I am there in early November. Just hoping the currency makes a revival by then. Any thing is possible.

To think the aussie was at $0.98 back in July... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Marriage?

You need to get your priorities right. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Nope, been buying from Amazon since the early days of DVD and we've seen plenty of fluctuations in that time. As with the early days of DVD, there's still quite an advantage in release windows with region A bluray, which in itself justifies it for me. Plus, even with with some $A fluctuation, I still think we pay too much here for both DVDs and especial BR's. I'm sorry but 2 for $50 on WB titles I saw at EzyDVD the other day doesn't cut it for me when I went home the same arvo and ordered some of the same titles for $US14.95.

Don’t bother saving for marriage mate, you will never pay that off no matter how much you put it to it.

Yep i am the culprit. Even when i went over in 76 as an exchange student the arse fell out of it then. But we were still over par back then. USD$1-AUD$1.17 i think (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)
